In 2023 Italian GDP grew by 0.7% over 2022 after adjustments for calendar effects and seasonal adjustments, ISTAT said on Tuesday.
There were two fewer working days in 2023 compared to the previous year, ISTAT added.
The government indicated growth of 0.8% for last year in its NADEF update to its DEF economic and financial blueprint, presented in September.
However, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti later said the economy could slow as result of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and therefore that the forecast could be revised down.
ISTAT also said in the fourth quarter of 2023 Italian GDP increased by 0.2% compared to the previous quarter and by 0.5% over the same quarter of 2022 after adjustments for calendar effects and seasonal adjustments, according to initial estimates.
The fourth quarter of 2023 had three fewer working days than the previous quarter and one fewer working days than the fourth quarter of 2022.
Between the second and third quarters of 2023 GDP grew by 0.1%.
