Employees of SMICTOM, the household waste collection and processing union in Gien-Arrabloy (Loiret), are still in shock after the intervention of firefighters on Wednesday January 24, mid-morning, in the incineration plant of waste from this Loiret commune.
The cause of this collective emotion?
A technician heard the cries of a puppy, trapped in the maze of garbage.
All production lines were immediately stopped to leave room for the intervention of around ten firefighters, who tried in vain to find him.
The animal probably died of exhaustion and suffocation in the garbage bag collected a few hours earlier during a tour of downtown Gien.
“We find a whole bunch of unusual things in garbage, but here we reach the height of stupidity and cruelty.
I have never seen that,” said a factory employee, wishing to remain anonymous.
An act punishable by 3 years in prison
SMICTOM filed a complaint with the gendarmerie for an act of cruelty towards an animal, recalling on the airwaves of France Bleu Orléans that it is “strictly prohibited to place corpses, remains of domestic or wild animals in household waste, and has even more so still alive.

This employee hopes that “the idiot who committed this despicable act will be found and that, never again, will anyone have the idea of sending a live animal into a dumpster.”
The perpetrator faces a sentence of 3 years in prison, to which is added a fine of up to 45,000 euros.
