Verdi and Lufthansa start collective bargaining - strikes threaten.
Update from January 30, 2024:
Aviation security forces are scheduled to go on strike at the larger German airports this Thursday (February 1, 2024).
The Verdi union has called for this.
The approximately 25,000 employees in the aviation security industry were asked to stop work from early morning, Hessischer Rundfunk reported on Tuesday.
The strike should last until midnight.

It is already clear that there will be train cancellations for travelers from next week: “From January 8th, you should expect longer labor disputes,” said the train drivers’ union GDL, Claus Weselsky, in mid-December.
The train drivers want to go on strike for up to five days in a row in January.
In addition, the farmers' association is planning an “action week” as a protest from January 8th to 15th.
They shut down important traffic arteries as early as December.
And now Verdi could also threaten warning strikes at German airports.
Collective bargaining among aviation security forces and Lufthansa is pending.
Lufthansa strikes in 2024?

Trade unions are negotiating improved wages and salaries for two groups of employees within the Lufthansa Group as well as for aviation security assistants.
Warning strikes are not explicitly ruled out - the peace obligation for the collective bargaining rounds ended in December.
“We always prepare all scenarios that are possible,” the

quoted a Verdi negotiator as saying.
Specific data has already been leaked: According to this, there should be no strike before January 18th.
“Then it is up to the employer whether they make us an offer or not.
We cannot then rule out warning strikes,” said the Verdi spokesman.
The security check staff can even start earlier: Verdi is only ruling out warning strikes until January 11th - and could therefore take place in parallel with the farmers' protests and GDL rail strikes.
Warning strikes usually result in extensive flight cancellations.

Lufthansa should also pay an inflation bonus of 3,000 euros.

There should be 2.80 euros more per hour for the aviation security forces.
Overtime should be paid with a 30 percent surcharge.
And what does Lufthansa say about the strike scenario?

After negotiations began in mid-January, a total of five meeting dates were set at Frankfurt Airport by mid-March.
