Penzing - Nicole Kidman as a Russian healer named Masha Dmitrichenko, who receives nine very different people in a remote hotel in the Alps in order to treat them with obscure methods - that sounds like Hollywood.
In fact, the first season of the Amazon Prime streaming series “Nine Perfect Strangers” was not created in California, but in Australia.
So the location plays no role in creating the perfect illusion.
So what speaks against producing the second season of the series in Europe?
In Germany?
In Bavaria?
The makers of this production also thought so and chose the Penzing Studios, which only went into operation two years ago, in the town of the same name in the Landsberg district, as the location for the interior shots of the mysterious “Tranquillum House” in the Swiss mountains.
Penzing Studios cannot confirm this for “contractual reasons,” it tells the KREISBOTEN.
However, the funding amounts already granted for the project indicate that a large international project is to be built on the site of the former air base.
The German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF) is paying ten million euros on behalf of Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth, and the Bavarian Film Television Fund (FFF) is contributing another million, as the “SZ” reports.
Filming will not only take place in the studios, but also in Munich and Austria.
Millions of euros in funding have already been made available for this purpose in the neighboring country.
Hollywood star Kidman (56), known from films such as “Eyes Wide Shut”, “On the Road to Cold Mountain” and “The Hours” as well as series such as “Big Little Lies”, is one of the best-known and highest-paid actresses in the world.
In the first season of "Nine perfect Strangers", which started in 2021 and is based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, she starred, among others, Melissa McCarthy, Samara Weaving and Luke Evans and Michael Shannon, for the second season, according to rumors, Annie Murphy, Christina Baranski, Murray Bartlett and Lucas Englander in conversation.

The main attraction of Penzing Studios is the so-called Hyperbowl, in which three-dimensional backgrounds for all kinds of film scenes can be created.
Rupert Sanders already used this for his remake of “The Crow”, and Bora Dagtekin (“Fack ju Göhte”) also filmed here – “Chantal in Fairytale Land” with Jella Haase.
And another big name is mentioned in connection with the new Upper Bavarian dream factory.
The sequel to the 1993 action film “Cliffhanger” with Sylvester Stallone will soon be produced here.
Nicole Kidman and Sylvester Stallone - names that even Penzing's mayor Peter Hammer (CSU) raves about.
They are "the best proof that something really big is being created here - I'm happy for the Penzing Studios, the state of Bavaria and of course, first and foremost, for my community of Penzing," Hammer told the Münchner Merkur: "We can assume that so that positive effects of a wide variety of kinds and a new charisma can come from Penzing.” However: “We will still have to get used to the role of a Bavarian Hollywood.”
