“Real madness” in Middle Franconia: A playground with equipment anchored in the ground has to go because it doesn’t have a building permit.

Kalchreuth - It's a story that makes most people shake their heads in disbelief.

The Erlangen-Höchstadt district office has informed foster mom and childminder Beate Mohr from Kalchreuth that the playground on her garden property violates the development plan.

The NDR satire program “Extra 3” reported on this at the end of 2023 in the “Realer Irrsinn” section and “Sat.1 Bayern”.

Another case of “real madness”: intersection in Bavaria redesigned for 1.3 million euros – with 37 traffic lights.

Playground equipment anchored in the ground – and therefore illegal

The articles report on the strange story that took place in Kalchreuth.

Beat Mohr, as the “Extra 3” article says, received a playground as a gift from the community in 2019.

Mohr looks after disadvantaged children, and sometimes she cannot go to a normal playground with the children, according to the Sat.1 article.

Now Mohr was reported by a resident - and the district office promptly contacted him because the climbing frame did not comply with the development plan.

The background is that the playground equipment is firmly anchored in the ground - and the foster mother would have needed a building permit for this.

The TV report from NDR quotes the district office as saying that the property is located in the outskirts of Kalchreuth, where only a few projects are permitted.

“In general, only so-called privileged projects may be built there,” it says – such as “biogas plants, mobile phone systems, wind turbines”.

The climbing frame for disadvantaged children is therefore not a privileged project - “Unless it is a cell phone system,” the article mocks.

“I was shocked” – mothers stunned by incident

Both TV reports also show the reactions of the mothers who leave their children in “Haus Mohrenland”, as Beate Mohr's child care center is called.

They are stunned and cannot understand the district office's decision.

Mohr herself also explains in the NDR report about the situation when she received the letter from the authorities: “I was shocked.”

Mohr should dismantle the playground equipment at the end of 2023.

She fought the order in vain, and despite the support of many residents and signatures, the district office stuck to its decision.

Mohr wrote on Facebook on December 13th: “Hello everyone, the decision has been made.

The ERH district office will not revoke the order, which we all find very unfortunate.

My children's beloved play equipment must be dismantled."

If the community had given Ms. Mohr a biogas plant for her disadvantaged children, then everything would have been fine.

So the matter became just another case of “real madness” in the Free State.
