In the Riviera capital, security is an absolute priority.
Isn't Nice the city in France most equipped with video surveillance cameras?
Some 4,000 digital eyes crisscross the city (compared to 1,200 in Paris for example), to the great delight of the mayor and his first deputy Anthony Borré, both addicted to ultra-surveillance, which they would like to further reinforce through integration of artificial intelligence.
The city is also equipped with around 1,400 alert boxes.
Directly connected to the Urban Supervision Center (CSU), these take the form of an emergency call terminal that can be triggered at any time.

Sunday January 21, a meeting between CASE (club of the general water company of Nice) and Étoile de Menton, at the Hairabédian stadium, in the sensitive Ariane district, degenerated.
In the 30th minute, several dozen hooded individuals entered the pitch.
Armed with bats, knives, tasers and smoke bombs, the small team set out after several players with the aim of physically fighting.
Some spectators were also targeted.
A real punitive expedition.

Thirteen sites in Nice and one in La Trinité
With such incredible and unexpected violence, the scene lasted only a handful of minutes, enough to leave a lasting impression.
“We reached a milestone that day.
Because there has always been a bit of violence and tension in football but this is unheard of,
observes Eddy Lai, the president and coach of CASE.
Moreover, it is a settling of scores which has no connection with sport.
Which is all the more serious because a stadium is a sanctuary.
You don’t solve your problems on the pitch, ever.”

Unacceptable facts”

, the deputy specifies on the social network that the emergency call terminals will be installed in the same way as they were in front of the city schools.

Only in football stadiums?
And in what form?
Impossible to know.

This is a good start but we must not believe that a button will solve the problems of violence in stadiums.
A football coach from Nice.
The president of CASE doesn't know much more.
If he welcomes
“a rapid response from the City of Nice and a significant step forward to guarantee security during the matches”,
Eddy Lai regrets a lack of consultation.
“It’s not the same thing if the terminals are installed in the stadium parking lot or in the locker rooms, or even in the stands.”
The coach would like this device to be put in place on the sidelines so that it is
“within reach and not triggered by just anyone.”
“It’s a good start but we shouldn’t believe that a button will solve the problems of violence in the stadiums,”
sneers another local coach.
