Probably everyone who visited the Greek island of Zakynthos came to Navagio, the beautiful beach on which a 44-year-old shipwreck is located - but time seems to take its toll, and the ship's condition has deteriorated so much over the past few years that even the local authorities decided to intervene.
According to rumors spread by locals, the ship, which contained smuggled goods, ran aground in 1980 after its crew abandoned it to escape the pursuing Greek navy.
The beauty between the natural landscape of the beach and the ship on which time is taking its toll, has made it one of the most preferred destinations for tourists who come to the island.

One of the reasons why the ship is in danger is not only the nearby cliffs, but also the severe weather that has recently hit the area, which, according to local media, caused parts of it to break.
Photos circulated on social networks, in which the ship is seen 8 years apart, show the severe damage the vessel suffered.
The island's residents and tourism agents called on the local authorities to intervene immediately to protect the ship, arguing that it is of great importance to the island's income.
Quite a few of them even volunteered to manage and pay for the preservation of the sunken ship themselves.
Mayor Giorgos Stassinopoulos even called on the Greek Ministries of Tourism and Economy to act to protect the famous site.
Now, the authorities will have to intervene in the matter immediately to save the ship, which has made the area a particularly popular tourist destination.
