Three questions for Markt Swabia's mayor Michael Stolze
What projects are your priority in the current year?
The new year certainly has some challenges to offer that we are happy to take on.
These include: Completion and move-in to the new primary and middle school, completion of our ISEK project by summer, renewal of the artificial turf field and all-weather pitch in the sports park, planning entry into the “Future Indoor Swimming Pool Markt Schwaben” project, completion of the inner-city Hennigbach renovation and renaturation, continuation of the overall project “Flood protection for Markt Schwaben”, continuing the renovation of our sewer and water pipe network, breaking ground for the construction of the new heating plant of our municipal company KUMS according to the iKWK principle and sticking to the budget consolidation path we have chosen to restore our financial budget.
What support would you like from the district regarding district levy, refugees and asylum seekers?
The budgetary situation of more and more municipalities can be described as tense.
Because the district levy represents a large item in every municipal budget, it gives rise to a lot of discussion every year.
Given the numerous dependencies between the district and its district communities, the strategic future projects for the district must be defined and prioritized even more closely.
Because the district levy cannot rise to an “immeasurable level”, for better or worse, not all projects will be able to be implemented in the future.
Accommodating and caring for refugees and asylum seekers is a constant challenge for everyone involved.
It would be desirable to act even more proactively when it comes to the personnel required for this.
If you had three wishes for Markt Schwaben, what would they be?
First of all, I hope for Markt Schwaben that we can continue to live together in such a colorful, lively, appreciative and peaceful way.
Secondly, I hope that in the future we will continue to have a lively town center with an attractive retail offering, which is stimulated by a kind of “give and take”.
In third place I would like to hope that our efforts to consolidate budgets continue to achieve the desired effects and that we can move forward again in the future without stabilization aid from the Free State.
Due to current events, I have a fourth wish for our Swabian market.
There are currently around 80 refugees being accommodated by the state in our community.
The refugee crisis in Europe in 2015/2016, with a flight of around two million people to the European Union, meant that at peak times over 300 refugees were cared for and accommodated in Markt Schwaben.
Regardless of how and where, I hope that we can join forces in 2024 to offer protection to more refugees in Markt Schwaben.
