Some Würmtal residents are preparing for the end of their chimney this year.
But you may not have to shut down your fireplace or replace it.

– It's cold outside, but inside a tiled stove or fireplace provides cozy warmth.
Anyone who started using their fireplace after March 21, 2010 can really enjoy it.
Fear is currently rampant among many who have an older model in their home.
This is not necessarily justified.
Master chimney sweep Thomas Höcht from Pentenried says: “The year of construction alone doesn’t count.” Whether someone can still use their fireplace in 2025 depends on whether it meets the limit values for fine dust emissions and carbon monoxide as well as the minimum efficiency levels set out in the Federal Immission Control Ordinance in 2010.
“Some are already making it,” says chimney sweep Martin Kelnhofer confidently.
He is responsible for parts of Gräfelfing and Planegg.
Proof without much effort
Thomas Höcht is convinced that some fireplaces can continue to operate, even though the chimney sweep's certificate shows that they have to be shut down.
The owner only has to prove to the chimney sweep that the stove meets the conditions of the regulation.
Höcht advises you to obtain proof with little effort on the following website: https://www.cert.hki-online.de/de/geraete/marken-liste.
You just have to know the manufacturer and model.
If the fireplace reaches level 1 or 2 under the item “Evaluation of emission data and wood efficiency”, it can stay.
Looking online can quickly save fireplace owners several thousand euros, says Höcht.
If the fireplace is not listed there, not everything is lost.
Because chimney sweeps can carry out a measurement.
They cost 400 to 500 euros.
“I only measure ovens that could obviously do this given their age,” explains Höcht.
If the measurement is positive, the chimney can remain.
The fireplaces that are now affected by the regulation are not very old.
The third and final stage of the regulation will come into effect on January 1, 2025.
Models that were put into operation between January 1, 1995 and March 21, 2010 are now affected.
Before that, it was the turn of older fireplaces.

Sometimes a dust filter is enough
Chimney sweep Florian Prillinger also estimates: “A lot of people will be affected.” He knows the fireplaces and tiled stoves in Neuried, a large part of Martinsried and part of Gräfelfing.
For some it is enough to use a dust filter.
Kelnhofer says: “Actually, everyone knows.” Dreesbach thinks “people are not as well informed as they could be.”
Höcht is convinced that some people are misinformed – to their detriment.
But everyone has time.
Chimney owners only have to take action when the chimney sweep comes.
And that can take time.
He only intervenes at the chimney sweep's first fireplace inspection, which follows January 1, 2025.
The chimney sweep comes twice in seven years, explains Kelnhofer.
For example, if a chimney is inspected by a chimney sweep in December 2024, it could remain in operation for at least three years.
Dreesbach estimates: “People will come in the next two, three, four years.” Not even the last stage of the regulation has been processed yet.
It is important to mention to Höcht: “No one has to tear out their stove.” Anyone who does not comply with the values can turn their stove into an emergency fireplace.
If the heating fails completely or there is no more gas, it can be used after consulting the district office.

If you have a very old fireplace, you don't have to worry at all: "Nostalgic fireplaces can stay," says Kelnhofer.
Anyone who heats exclusively with wood is still allowed to do so.
And old kitchen stoves also enjoy grandfathering protection.
