Thieves steal 10,000 liters of olive oil from a company in Barcelona

An oil producing company in Barcelona has reported the theft of 10,000 liters just at the time when the so-called liquid gold exceeds - depending on the brands - 14 euros per liter.

The company that was the victim of the robbery is Olis Bargalló de Castellví, in Rosanes (Barcelona).

The crime took place early Monday morning.

“The criminals managed to enter our facilities located in the Industrial Estate of Castellví de Rosanaes and stole nearly 10,000 liters of olive oil, in addition to the safe,” says a company spokesperson.

The CEO of the industry, Francesc Bargalló, assures that the losses amount to more than 70,000 euros.

The events took place on the night of Sunday to Monday, January 29.

According to the company, the criminals entered the facility with a truck, canceling the alarms.

Once inside, they loaded several pallets with boxes and jugs.

Bargalló details that they stole five- and two-liter bottles of extra virgin olive oil, soft oil, tasty oil, as well as several boxes of half-liter bottles of OOVE arbequina and green glass bottles.

The thieves gained access to the offices and also managed to take the safe.

Bargalló himself reported the incident to the Mossos d'Esquadra but, in addition, he wanted to alert future clients and distributors about the sale of the stolen bottles and carafes: “Surely, the thieves will use other means to place the product in the market, either in street markets or selling it to restaurants and bars outside of our usual market.”

Bargalló has asked for collaboration to locate the stolen product and identify those responsible for the theft.

It is the second time, in less than a year, that Olis Bargalló is the victim of a robbery.

In April 2023, criminals accessed the facilities although they did not manage to get hold of any products.

“They had it very planned on Monday.

They are specialists and they knew what they were doing given the large volume of boxes of oil that have been taken without anyone noticing or setting off the alarm,” concluded the CEO.
