1,100 square meters of practical gardening tips were available to discover over the weekend at Irmengard Jakob's magnificent certified kitchen and natural garden in Urspring.

She offered him three tours as part of the “Gartenwinkel Pfaffenwinkel” garden network.

Urspring/Bernried

– When entering the garden that is attached to the house, the garden still looked very inanimate, as if it was still in hibernation.

But that's deceptive.

Spring is already tickling the plants, which are peeking into the still young year with new vines here and there.

By the way: Everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Therefore, now is the ideal time to pick up tricks and tips about the garden for the upcoming season from Jakob.

And she had plenty of them.

She is a true professional when it comes to sustainability and recycling.

“Everything that comes under my feet is used,” she reveals.

From bed to bed with lots of information

And so she leads the groups, who listened with great interest to her words, from bed to bed.

Jakob's paths in the beds are made of chopped shrub cuttings, a completely natural material.

Past the medlar tree, on which the beautiful medlar fruits hang decoratively and which Jakob loves to use in Christmas decorations, we went to the back of the garden, from where you can hear the idyllic babbling of the stream flowing past.

All news and stories from our district can also be found on our Weilheimer Tagblatt Facebook page.

There Jakob has one of her many mounds of earth on which she plants rhubarb and mayberries.

“The Mayberry blooms very early and its fruits are already ripe at the end of May.

“Beautiful dark red fruits that I really like to add to the rhubarb cake,” says Jakob.

Collect experience from mistakes

But their tips are not about preparing the harvest, but primarily about the tips and tricks tested by Jakob about the satellite, protecting young plants from snails, storing valuable horse manure, watering, how dead wood is beneficial for insects Find your place in the garden or how materials from the household can be used sustainably in the garden.

She also repeatedly mentions the mistakes from which she was able to gain her experience and: “My plants also die from time to time.

That's part of it.

It’s a coming and going,” which elicited nods of agreement from the participants.

And off to your own garden

At the end of the far too short hour, the participants went back full of great tips and tricks, perhaps even directly into their own garden, to start implementing what they had learned.

One participant took away a special tip: “I thought it was great to realize that I don't have to stick to such strict guidelines about how beds have to be laid out, but that it can also be wild.

I will take this tip with me about the mounds of soil to plant my vegetables in.

A great idea."
