The Turkish president's lobby is running in the European elections with the newly founded DAVA party.

There are many warning voices in Germany.

Frankfurt – Recep Tayyip Erdogan has many supporters in Germany.

With the new party DAVA (Democratic Alliance for Diversity and Awakening), the Turkish president's lobby wants to enter the European Parliament in June.

reported on the founding of the new party DAVA on January 17th.

“Our goal here is to clearly identify unequal treatment and imbalances in society as a whole and to ensure that people with foreign roots are granted their rights in full,” says a statement from DAVA, among other things.

“With a clear commitment to diversity and tolerance, we position ourselves vehemently against nationalism, xenophobia, anti-Muslim racism and anti-Semitism.”

The founding of the party attracted extensive criticism.

“An Erdogan-AKP offshoot in Germany would be another extreme party in the country,” writes Jens Spahn, the deputy parliamentary group leader of the Union in the Bundestag, on X. Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir also made similar comments.

“An Erdogan offshoot running for elections here is the last thing we need,” writes the Green politician on X.

Kurdish community in Germany warns against DAVA

Ali Ertan Toprak, federal chairman of the Kurdish Community of Germany (KGD), sees the party as dangerous in the FR discussion.

“The DAVA party is the Turkish AfD and at the same time the German AKP.

At your head are the most famous Erdogan lobbyists in Germany.

We know this from the early days of the UETD (now UID), how they denied any connection to Erdogan.

DAVA will divide our society even deeper.”

Experts see the new party “DAVA” as an extension of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Toprak is addressing the DAVA candidates with this.

Until recently, Fatih Zingal was listed as press spokesman on the UID (Union of International Democrats) website.

The UID is considered a lobby organization for the Turkish ruling party AKP.

And then there are the DAVA's top candidates: Ali Ünlü is a long-time official of Ditib and Mustafa Yoldas is a long-time official of the IGMG and chairman of the IHH, which was banned in 2010 because of ties to Hamas.

UID and IGMG appear again and again in the reports of the Federal and State Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

DAVA is the latest offshoot of Erdogan's AKP

Toprak therefore warns against DAVA.

“Behind this lies the agenda of a fundamentalist ideology, which is being planted in German society based on the political Islam of the Muslim Brotherhood and promoted by the Turkish president.

The DAVA party should not be treated differently than the AfD and it should not be described as a migrant party.

Because she isn't.

“DAVA” is the latest offshoot of Erdogan’s AKP, which is a staunchly nationalist party, anti-democratic, with Islamist traits and openly hating Israel.”

SPD takes a relaxed view of the new party for the European elections

The SPD, on the other hand, appears calm.

A connection to Ankara apparently cannot be shown, says Bundestag member Macit Karaahmetoglu (SPD) in a press release.

“But I neither believe that Turkish President Erdogan and the AKP are supporting the party directly, especially financially, nor that the founding is intended to influence the European Parliament.

“You can accuse Erdogan of many things, but not that he could be so careless as to found a party that is seen as a figurehead for the Turkish community, but could potentially remain completely irrelevant in the elections.”

Karaahmetoglu is also deputy chairman of the German-Turkish parliamentary group.

The SPD politician suspects that the Union wanted to subsequently tarnish the reform of nationality law.

“Fake news is immediately circulating about Muslim parties that could soon sit in the Bundestag thanks to dual citizenship,” said Karaahmetoglu.

DAVA is confronted with defamation by the media and politics

In another press release, DAVA has now rejected the allegations made by politicians and the media.

The party sees this as defamation.

“We hereby reject targeted attempts to restrict the DAVA in its constitutional right to political activity.”

The party also states that “DAVA is not an extension of any foreign government.”

How closely Ditib, IGMG and UID work together was shown in the run-up to the 2023 Turkish election.

Between mid-2021 and the end of 2022 alone, the UID had 670 “joint events” with Ditib.

During the same period there were 420 such events with the IGMG.

Over 100 AKP MPs visited German and other mosques and campaigned for their party and President Erdogan there.

Note: FR.de from IPPEN.MEDIA asked the new party DAVA questions about our article.

DAVA has not yet responded.
