With Jens Müller's election victory, a member of the UWK takes over the mayor's position in the Kochler town hall.

Thomas Eberl, also from the UWK, remains deputy mayor.

For the first time, CSU candidate Thomas Bacher speaks out about his defeat two weeks ago and the style of his election campaign.

Kochel am See – With the election of Jens Müller as the new mayor, a new era is dawning in the municipality of Kochel.

For the first time, a member of the Kochel Independent Voters' Association (UWK) is at the top of the town hall.

Rosi Marksteiner (center) also fought for this position.

Here is a look at the numbers on how Müller and Marksteiner performed in the individual electoral districts:

Choice in numbers

At the polling station at the Kochler town hall (ballot ballot), Müller was clearly ahead of Marksteiner with 36.2 percent (126 votes) with 63.8 percent (222 votes).

This clear lead also existed in the first round of voting on January 14th.

At the polling station at the school, Marksteiner was able to catch up somewhat with 43.2 percent (150 votes), but here too the majority voted for Müller with 197 votes (56.8 percent).

The difference is very clear in Ried.

Müller had already done well here on January 14th, but now he improved again and won 70.8 percent (121 votes).

Marksteiner received at least two more votes than in mid-January, but the 50 supporters were not enough (29.2 percent).

In Walchensee, Marksteiner received 54 votes, five more than in the first round and equal to 43.9 percent.

But here too, Müller won the race with 69 votes (56.1 percent).

If you look at the postal votes from Walchensee and Ried, Müller is clearly ahead: the 55-year-old received 116 votes (62.4 percent), Marksteiner only 70 votes (37.6 percent).

The difference is similarly high in the school postal voting district.

Here 170 people voted for Müller (59.4 percent), Marksteiner received 116 votes (40.6 percent).

The difference is only smaller in the town hall postal voting district.

Here Marksteiner received 115 postal votes (46.4 percent), Müller received 133 (53.6 percent).

Overall, it must also be noted that with a turnout of 54.1 percent, only one in two people in Kochel went to the runoff vote.

Look into history

Rosi Marksteiner was not the first mayoral candidate in Kochel.

In 2007, Angelica Dullinger (SPD) applied for this office and received 17.7 percent.

In this election, when it came to the successor to Werner Englert (CSU), Thomas Holz (CSU) won straight away with 56.1 percent.

Helmut Renner (fellow citizen) came in second with 18.5 percent.

The fourth candidate, Michael Landerer from the Free Voters, got 7.7 percent.

The voter turnout at that time was almost 70 percent.

CSU candidate Thomas Bacher comments

CSU candidate Thomas Bacher spoke out at the weekend.

As reported, little was seen of Bacher in the election campaign and he was eliminated in the first round of voting on January 14th.

Here is his

statement in full:

“I would like to thank my wife, my family, my supporters and voters from the bottom of my heart.

I started my candidacy for first mayor in Kochel am See with heart and mind.

I wanted to score points in my election campaign with content and my own ideas.

I presented these in the panel discussion, the Kochler Blatt'l and in personal conversations.

With my motto 'Vui gredt is kleine gsogt' I tried to reflect my honesty in my candidacy.

You can only create change if you approach things differently than before.

I am satisfied with my result and very grateful for the numerous approvals.

I don't want to comment further on what influences affected my result.

I have already made my announced donation.

I take responsibility for my election campaign and am grateful for the impressions and experiences.

I would like to continue to work for Kochel am See in a citizen-oriented, pragmatic, economically successful and socially innovative manner.”

Swearing in

Jens Müller will take up his new office the day after the election committee meeting, i.e. on Tuesday, January 30th.

On this day there will be a local council meeting at 7 p.m. in which Müller will be sworn in.

The 55-year-old is now no longer allowed to practice his profession as a lawyer.

Müller said on election evening that his wife Helga, also a lawyer, would soon take over the cases that he was no longer able to process.

More mayors

The deputy mayors will not be re-elected.

Müller's deputy remains Thomas Eberl from the UWK.

For the first time in Kochel's history, the UWK now holds both offices.

The CSU provides the third mayor, Veronika Lautenbacher.

Municipal council

The UWK was previously represented by two people on the local council.

Because Müller is now mayor, a person will be added to the committee for the UWK.

Returning officer Nicole Lutterer doesn't want to give a name yet because it first needs to be clarified whether the person will accept the office or not, otherwise the second person to take over will be asked.

The CSU remains the strongest faction in the local council with five people.

If someone from this group were to leave, ex-mayor Thomas Holz, a member of the state parliament since October, would be the first replacement.

Rumors are circulating in Kochel that this could be the case.

When asked, Holz firmly rejects this.

“The question doesn’t arise at all.

I don't understand why such a discussion arises." He is very busy in his new role in the state parliament and enjoys doing this work.

“Everyone who sits on the Kochler local council for the CSU enjoys carrying out their duties.

There was no signal given to me that anyone wanted to stop.”
