The train drivers' strike at the GDL has only just ended, and passengers are facing the next challenge: The Verdi union is calling for warning strikes in public transport in almost all federal states next Friday.

Buses and subways should also come to a standstill in Hamburg.

Hamburg - The Verdi union has also called on the employees of the Hamburger Hochbahn to go on an all-day warning strike next Friday.

The union announced this on Tuesday after a round of negotiations with the city transport company.

The Hochbahn operates bus and subway services in the Hanseatic city.

The S-Bahn, which belongs to the Deutsche Bahn group, is not affected.

The day before, Verdi had already called on employees of Hamburg's second major transport company, VHH, to go on an all-day warning strike.

Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) is majority owned by the city of Hamburg, but its buses operate primarily in the Schleswig-Holstein area surrounding the Hanseatic city.

Verdi has called for warning strikes in local public transport in almost all federal states.

“Since collective bargaining has now taken place in all federal states and has not produced any results, now is the time to put more pressure on employers,” said Verdi’s deputy federal chairwoman, Christine Behle, in Berlin on Monday.

Despite the nationwide negotiations, the union's goals and demands differ - depending on what type of collective agreement is being fought for in the respective federal state.

The situation in Hamburg is special: Unlike many other companies, the Hochbahn and the Hamburg-Holstein transport company (VHH) are not subject to the area tariff, but rather to an in-house collective agreement.

The ongoing collective conflict is primarily about the collective agreements that regulate working conditions.

Verdi demands shorter working hours without financial losses, longer rest periods between individual shifts, more vacation days or more vacation pay.
