A wasp's nest had blocked the chimney: There was an emergency in a single-family home in Munich after gases escaped.

The fire department identified the problem - in the chimney.

Munich - There was an unusually high concentration of carbon monoxide in a single-family home in Lochhausen on Monday afternoon (January 29th).

A resident had to be taken to a Munich hospital.

A rescue team was called due to an internal emergency in the house.

As soon as the rescue workers entered the building, their CO detector triggered an alarm.

They then immediately evacuated the house and called the fire department.

Emergency in a single-family home: Fire brigade arrives with respiratory protection - and removes wasp nest

In order to determine the source of the increased carbon monoxide concentration, a team equipped with respiratory protection and a gas detector entered the single-family home.

They suspected that the tiled stove chimney was blocked.

In order to reduce the CO concentration in the house, the firefighters opened doors and windows.

A local chimney sweep, who was just a few streets away, was brought to the scene by firefighters.

He cleaned the chimney and cleared the blockage.

The cause was identified as a large, inactive wasp nest.
