Because Thomas Orbig (formerly “Sparkasse Oberland”) had to resign from office, a new first chairman was elected at the Weilheim location development association.

This is a native of Weilheim.

The Weilheim location development association has a new first chairman: Johannes Medele (37), managing partner of the company “KreuterMedeleSchäfer”, replaced Thomas Orbig in the post.

A new election had become necessary because Orbig was no longer allowed to hold office in the association after leaving the board of “Sparkasse Oberland”.

Editor Stephanie Uehlein spoke to Medele about his new role.

Mr. Medele, what is so attractive about your new position?

For me, as a native of Weilheim and as a Weilheim entrepreneur, it is exciting to shape one thing or another in the club and in the city.

I also find it nice to set up and design projects.

I am also interested in keeping the location development association attractive.

And what are the challenges?

For example, there are many vacant shops in downtown Weilheim.

What you are talking about here is a topic that I still have to delve into.

However, I think it is important to make the city center attractive.

But the club is also about linking indoor and outdoor areas in Weilheim and linking individual areas such as trade, services and commerce.

Every member company should feel represented by the association.

But how do you see the store vacancies in the city center?

If the city center were to die out, as a Weilheimer I would of course find that a shame.

When long-established businesses are missing, it hurts.

Therefore, the attractiveness of the city center, which is certainly not good for online trading, is definitely an issue for the club.

It is important to keep businesses there.

One way to promote the city center is to appeal to people from the region in order to attract them to Weilheim.

But one thing is clear about the problem: the location development association alone cannot fix it.

Have you already set yourself specific goals as club chairman?

The new board, which met for the first time on January 22nd, is still in the discovery phase, but would like to continue projects and take up ideas that already played a role before the Corona period.

For example, we want to support the Street Magic Festival in Weilheim again, and it is already clear that we will support the “Reading Break” again this year.

We would also support a “discovery trip” again, where you can take the bus to individual companies.

Since we as entrepreneurs cannot implement such projects alone, it is important to us to cooperate with professionals such as the city's Office for Location Development.

The association would like to pursue the project of redesigning its homepage.

Do you already have experience from the association for your position?

I was elected to the board last year, initially as an assessor.

Before that, neither my father nor I were members of the board, even though our company had been a member of the association for a long time.

But I think you grow with the tasks.

I also have a good team with board experience.
