On the right, Minister Benny Gantz (the state camp) is accused of wanting the Palestinian Authority to be the one to rule Gaza the day after the war, but yesterday (Monday) Gantz claimed that the Palestinian Authority would not be the one to rule the Strip and neither would Israel.
During a visit to Himmelfarb High School, a religious Zionist high school for boys in Jerusalem that also lost several of its graduates, Gantz was asked whether he was for or against the PA controlling the Gaza Strip.
Gantz: "The Palestinian Authority will not control the Gaza Strip", photo: None
Gantz replied: "I'll tell you what I'm not in favor of - I'm not in favor of us ruling the Gaza Strip, there are two or so million people there. I checked with the Americans and they don't have a plan to come here, I checked with the Norwegians - they don't have a plan to come here. The Swedes are not planning to come either Arab countries also do not intend to send their soldiers to do this. Therefore, in my estimation, it will be based on a local Palestinian government that will be supported by the countries of the region."
According to him, "I don't think that the Authority is currently built to enter into this story, therefore we need to continue our operational mission, to allow the growth of civilian management capabilities."
Gantz said that "Hamas was an idea that built an organization that built operational capabilities and managed the Gaza Strip after removing the Palestinian Authority from there.
We are harming his abilities, harming his organization, we will harm the leadership and we will not allow him to control the Gaza Strip, at this time we need an alternative growth of what is happening there, it is not good that it should be us."
