Less traffic jams, more music: what did Israelis prefer to listen to during the war, and who won the battle for the news?

The TGI survey was published today (Tuesday) and reflects the year 2023, as well as the change that has taken place in exposure to the printed press and radio stations since the war.

Since after the 7/10 massacre there was a change in the transmitter boards of the radio stations, the data provided by Kantar Media reflect an average of the operational period and the combat period.

The Israel Hayom newspaper continues to lead the print press exposure table in 2023 as well, with a decrease to an exposure rate of 26.8% compared to 28.0% during 2022. The exposure rate for Yediot Ahronoth at the end of the past year stands at 21.8% compared to 21.6% during 2022. In the

weekend press, Israel Hayom leads with Exposure rate of 26.6% compared to 28.3% in 2022. Yediot Ahronoth receives an exposure rate of 26.4% compared to 26.8% in 2022.

The gap between the newspapers at the end of the week remains negligible.

Economically: Globes is moving away from the arena

Precisely in the sector of the economic press, a mini-drama is taking place, which can indicate something about the way in which the business sector perceives the war: Globes, which in recent years has taken a definite direction, continues the downward trend, and against the background of the war it drops further - from an exposure rate of 3.3% in the first median to 2.8% in the second half of the year.

He ends the year with only 3% exposure - while losing about a quarter of his strength in just one year.

In this way, it becomes a real niche newspaper and distances itself from the rest.

In contrast - De Marker jumps in the last median from 4.4% to 6.6%.

and shows an annual increase from 5.2% to 5.5%.

Calcalist maintains its place as the most exposed economic newspaper in Israel with an annual exposure rate of 11.3% - compared to 10.5% in 2023

Similar to what happened in the worlds of television, the war also completely changed the nature of the broadcasts in the radio stations, which were affected by the situation, and some of the commercial stations disabled their boards completely for several weeks.

In addition, for two months people were almost completely at home, with a partially functioning economy - a fatal blow to an industry based mainly on traffic jams and people leaving the house.

In the public radio sector:

in semi-annual terms, there is a decrease in the listening rate for "Kan" stations, with the group's listening rate standing at 35.0% in the second half of the year compared to 37.4% at the beginning of the year.

The IDF wave stations recorded a minor increase to 37.7% in the last half compared to 36.2% in the first half of 2023. The regional stations also recorded a decrease in listening rates and stand at 25.8% compared to 27.2% in the first half. In

this case too, the strength of the platform was proven once again , and some of them even managed to increase listening in the second half. Despite a drop in the last half from an exposure rate of 21.5% to 19.8% - here Network B maintains its place as the balanced current affairs station in Israel. Glatz, on the other hand, reduces gaps and experiences an increase in the last half from an exposure level of 20.2% to 20.5% in the median before it. In annual terms, Glatz ends 2023 with an increase from exposure of 19.5% to 20.3%, close to this is Network B which ends with 20.6% compared to 21% in the first median of the year. The balanced station in Israel, and in the gap, remains Galgalz with an exposure rate of 27.6%.

103 is the only current affairs station that is strengthening in the last half, while Glatz maintains itself and network B is weakening

Among the regional radio stations: despite a quarter in which the radio broadcast only in the morning bands, Radio 103 increases in the second half of 2023 from an exposure rate of 9.1% to 9.5%.

On an annual level, 103 drops from 11.7% to 9.3% and maintains its place as the strongest current affairs radio among the regional stations.

In fact, 103 is the only current affairs station that strengthens in the last half, while Glatz maintains itself and network B weakens in a minor way.

During the war, the strengthening of the music stations - Echo 99 Radius and Galgalat was also noticeable.

Echo 99 wins first place among all commercial radio stations - with 10.4% - an increase from an exposure rate of 9.9% in the previous median.

These figures are even more impressive, in light of the fact that the station changed its morning program in May 2023 - after 20 years of "Tal and Aviad".

More regionalism: despite the decline of Radio North 104.5 in the last median from an exposure rate of 3% to 2.5% - the station closes the year with an impressive increase from 2.1% to 2.7% - an increase of about a third.
