Apple's first mixed reality headsets, the Vision Pro, will arrive on the American market on February 2.
For the occasion, a number of companies will make specific versions of their apps available.
Among these is Zoom, which is updated and launches a series of features designed specifically for mixed reality.
The first concerns "Persona", the name with which the app that cleared video calls during the pandemic refers to users' avatars.
People will be able to scan their face with the Vision Pro so as to replace it with the real one, in the absence of a webcam, during video meetings.
Interlocutors will see a 3D reproduction with the replication of facial expressions in real time, thanks to the sensors detecting the headsets, and hand gestures.
The same experience will be made possible on FaceTime, Apple's proprietary messaging platform.
But that's not all: Zoom on Vision Pro will make wider use of the virtual and augmented reality potential of the expensive Apple accessory.
You will be able, for example, to share an image and place it in your immediate environment, as well as "block" the people you are chatting with (text, audio or video) in certain points of the room, as if they were really there.
It will cost $3,500 to take home a Vision Pro model complete with case, various face adapters, battery and charger, plus another $149 for a pair of prescription lenses.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, pre-orders in the United States went very well and close to 180 thousand units, with the hypothesis of shipping 500 thousand units globally within the year.
