Geretsried mourns Elfriede Wilfling.

The long-time chairwoman of the youth and social work sponsoring association has died at the age of 76.

The funeral will take place on Thursday.

Geretsried - “The fact that we at the Geretsried Youth and Social Work Association are able to do our work for the people in Geretsried and the surrounding area is essentially thanks to those people who take on responsibility as volunteers in the association and on the board”: these are the words of club chairwoman Kerstin Halba , her deputy Christian Eichin and the managing directors of the TVJA, Rudi Mühlhans and Angela Heim, farewell to Elfriede “Elli” Wilfling.

Mourning for Elfriede Wilfling: funeral on Thursday in the forest cemetery

The long-time club chairwoman - she was a recipient of the Isar Loisach Medal, among other things - died on January 25th at the age of 76.

The memorial service and subsequent burial will take place this Thursday, February 1st, at 10 a.m. at the forest cemetery in Geretsried.

“In over 40 years of the association’s history, it is now necessary for the second time to say goodbye to one of the six chairmen so far and to bow at the grave,” said the board and management.

Wilfling, who was born in Nuremberg, was chairwoman of the TVJA from 1999 to 2009 and then vice-chairman until 2011.

As a delegate to the association she co-founded at the end of the 1980s to promote the joint education of disabled and non-disabled children, for which the Geretsried native spoke for a good 30 years, Wilfling joined the youth and social work sponsoring association in 1998.

She remained closely associated with him as a delegate until 2023.

“During her time as a delegate and chairwoman of the association, Elli Wilfling was always an upright person and a fighter for the cause,” emphasize Halba, Eichin, Mühlhans and Heim in a press release published on Wednesday.

“During her time as chairwoman of the TVJA, the realignment of mobile youth work and, above all, the fight for a needs-based expansion of youth work offerings in the Stein district of Geretsried took place.”

Elfriede Wilfling died: In 2017 she received the Isar Loisach Medal

When she was awarded the Isar Loisach Medal for her outstanding voluntary work in 2017, Wilfling stated that she would wish “that you didn't have to join forces to fight for your rights”.

But reality makes this necessary.

The city of Geretsried had already honored Wilfling with the Citizens' Prize in 2009, and in 2014 she received an award for her life's work at the German Citizens' Prize.

Her commitment to the coexistence of disabled and non-disabled children “has simply become my cause,” Wilfling always explained modestly.

Nevertheless, she was a critical warning on the subject of inclusion: “It would be better if our association were not needed at all, but if the grievances and requirements that arise in this matter were generally on the agenda.”
