In Sandberg, Lower Franconia, a family found their horse dead in the pasture.
The injuries indicate a wolf tear.
DNA tests should clarify this.
Sandberg – “I was completely shocked, stunned, burst into tears,” owner Jennifer Söder recalls to
BR24
the moment she saw her 25-year-old horse Genius lying dead in the pasture.
And things get even worse for Söder: When she looks closer, she discovers that the animal had serious injuries to its abdomen and showed signs of battle.
Genius may have fallen prey to a wolf.
Wolves are not new in the region: the mayor is still considering removal
The Söder family's Kilianshof is located at the foot of the Kreuzberg in the Rhön-Grabfeld district.
The first mayor of the Sandberg municipality, Sonja Reubelt (CSU), knows that wolves have often been spotted in the area.
She spoke clearly to BR24
about the incident on Jennifer Söder's pasture
: "If it turns out that a wolf was the cause, you have to seriously think about removing it."

Wolves are often spotted all over Bavaria.
And discussions about resettlement continue to boil over.
Data shows where the real problem lies.

Wolf or other animal: DNA analysis results will be available in ten days
In order to find out whether horse Genius was really killed by a wolf, the DNA from the tracks on the carcass is examined.
The Senckenberg Research Institute examines the samples genetically.
If the quality of the samples taken is good enough, the Söder family and Mayor Reubelt will find out the result in about ten working days.
Genius carcass is removed from the pasture.
He will always have a place in the hearts of Jennifer Söder and her family.
