In preparation for the addition of the integration of renewable energy facilities in the distribution network, the Electric Company today (Wednesday) held a lottery among approximately 9,500 owners of electricity production facilities, in order to promote the connection of their facilities to the electricity grid.
Minister Eli Cohen "We made a historic decision to immediately stop electricity production at the Reading power plant"
The lottery was held following the addition of a 2,500 MW quota in the electricity grid, in favor of integrating and connecting renewable energy production facilities, so that a real possibility was created to connect additional green facilities to the system.
The new lottery was held between applicants with existing production facilities and those that will be established in the future, who registered in order to determine the order of examination of their applications.
Requests that meet the relevant threshold conditions - their connection to the distribution network will be prioritized.
This will allow the company to connect a large number of energy facilities to the distribution network and increase the amount of energy produced from renewable and distributed sources in the economy.
The addition will allow the connection of additional private production facilities to the distribution network, as well as increasing the purchase of energy from existing facilities, following the decision of the Electricity Authority and after joint work with the Authority and the "Nega" company.

The scope of the expected connection will promote compliance with the goal of 20% renewable energies in 2026 and reduce the gap from the renewable energy integration targets set by the government for 2030. The allocation to this quota was made possible after the removal of restrictions in the transmission network, which prevented the connection of installations in the distribution network or limited some of them.
In recent years, producers and consumers who asked to connect renewable energy facilities to the distribution network received some negative or limited answers.
Following this, a renewed inspection of the company was carried out together with the Electricity Authority and the Nega company responsible for determining the transmission limits in such a way that the existing network can be better utilized and exhausted, while maintaining its survival and safety.
The tests included, among other things, an accurate characterization of all the substations of the electric company and it was found possible to create an additional quota to absorb production from renewable energy facilities in the amount of 2,500 megawatts.

Meir Spiegler, CEO of the Electric Company: "Recently and even more so since the outbreak of the war, reality has anchored the need for the development of independent energy farms that combine grid energy, solar panels and energy storage facilities.
The struggle of the electric company to approve increasing the supply of green solar energy to the current grid has borne fruit, and the current lottery is the last step before its implementation."
"This is good news for producers from the periphery in the south and north of the country, which will provide them with an additional source of income. At the same time, the company is completing the deployment of the Eshkol Negev 400 kW line, which will soon be electrified and will significantly improve the renewable energy transmission capacity from the south of the country to the center."

Earlier today, it was reported that the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, announced the decision to stop electricity production at the Reading power plant.
This is a two-part outline for achieving energy security in Gush Dan based on energy storage instead of the existing gas turbines at the station.
The decision is expected to reduce air pollution and bring many benefits to the electricity sector and the environment.
