Using a nasty scam, unknown people defrauded a 69-year-old from Haar out of tens of thousands of euros on Tuesday.

They faked a fatal traffic accident with a bail requirement.

Haar

- At around 2:50 p.m., an unknown person contacted a 69-year-old from Haar by telephone.

He claimed that the woman's sister was involved in a fatal traffic accident.

She had to pay a deposit of several tens of thousands of euros so that her sister could be released.

The man also announced that a supposed employee of the justice fund would collect the money from the 69-year-old's home.

A short time later, the woman handed over jewelry worth tens of thousands of euros as well as cash amounting to several hundred euros to the collector.

It wasn't until an hour later that she called the police emergency number 110. The search efforts have so far yielded no clues about the perpetrator.

The Commissariat 61 for call center fraud has taken over the further investigation.

Call for witnesses

The person who picked up the car is described as a male, around 30 years old, 1.70 meters tall, with short, dark brown hair and a well-groomed appearance.

The appearance is Eastern European.

The man was wearing a light blue sweater and dark, black, long jeans.

Anyone who noticed anything in the area of Wieselweg, Jagdfeldring and in the adjacent green areas up to Dianastrasse during this period should contact the Munich Police Headquarters (Tel. 089/2910-0) or any other police station.

Police notice

Fake police or criminal investigators and other alleged officials such as judges or public prosecutors often use the trick that a family member or relative caused a serious accident and that bail is now due to avoid imprisonment or other difficulties.

Anyone who receives such a call should therefore make sure by calling the police emergency number 110 to see whether it could be a real call.

Anyone who calls the police on 110 must have definitely ended the previous call by hanging up the receiver or pressing a corresponding button on a cell phone.

This information also applies to similar scams. In all cases, you should consult your family and relatives by telephone. No details about financial circumstances should be disclosed over the telephone.

The police or similar officials would never ask for money or other valuables.

In addition, unknown people should never be allowed into the apartment.

Please do not allow yourself to be put under pressure: As a general rule, money should never be given to strangers or valuables should never be left outside the door to be picked up.
