Which animals are in danger of extinction on our planet?
In 1964, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) created a "
red list
", with the aim of listing all plant and animal species, as well as their conservation status.
This database now contains more than 150,000 records, which are associated with a status ranging from "
minor concern
" to "
critical danger
" of extinction, without mentioning species that are "
globally extinct
" or those that are not. not yet evaluated.

Endangered and yet unknown animals
Certain animals are perceived, in the collective imagination, as particularly vulnerable.
This is the case of the giant panda, the polar bear or the emperor penguin, regularly publicized as such.
However, they are far from being the most hopeless cases.
Other species are declining silently but surely, labeled CR (critically endangered) or EN (endangered), like the Pacific porpoise, the whale or the saola.
The latter is symbolic.
The saola is a shy mammal discovered only 30 years ago in Vietnam;
we may soon never encounter it again, threatened by the destruction of its habitat and by hunting.
Many animals are in this situation: they will disappear before we even have the time to know them well.
This is why we offer you a knowledge test.
Can you identify these animals close to extinction?
