Carsten Linnemann (CDU) speaks out clearly against citizens' money.

His plan: to support those who need help through welfare state reform.

Berlin – Citizens’ money is an often controversial topic.

CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann also has the plan to abolish basic security for job seekers in its current form.

For Linemann, a more radical reform of money is a condition for the CDU to participate in government.

“The working title for me is basic security,” said Linemann in the Table.Today podcast.

At the weekend he had already made critical comments about citizens' money to

Bild am Sonntag

.

His statements in the podcast reiterated his point of view.

The Union actually wants to introduce asset testing from day one and a requirement to work after just six months.

Linnemann rails against citizens' money: "It's crazy, the name"

“We will abolish citizen’s money in this form,” confirmed Linnemann in the podcast.

In his opinion, hundreds of thousands of recipients of citizens' benefit could actually go to work.

Instead, they would exploit the system that was developed under Olaf Scholz and the traffic light coalition.

His plan to get more structure into the principle of basic security for job seekers is a welfare state reform: “We will carry out a major welfare state reform in which we support those who need help.

But everyone who can work has to work.”

The Union politician also finds the name unfortunate: “It’s crazy, the name.

Try to imagine that abroad.

People’s Money?” The CDU is planning to present a reform in mid-March.

In addition to a new name, this should also include an asset check and a work requirement.

If the obligation is not followed, there will be a risk of cuts.

According to Linnemann, citizen's money is a preliminary stage of the unconditional basic income.

CDU wants new tax reform and is growing in polls

“If we can finance it, I think it would be good if we went to 100,000 euros,” said Linnemann.

According to Focus online,

the tax reform should

include the top tax rate of 42 percent for annual income that has increased significantly.

However, Linnemann rejected a higher income tax for top earners and an increase in inheritance tax.

Due to the accumulated criticism of the traffic light coalition, the CDU is currently experiencing a rise in surveys.

But it's not just the criticism of other parties that is responsible for this, because CDU leader Friedrich Merz has gained more sympathy among those surveyed.

“Friedrich Merz is performing better and better,” says Linnemann.
