Walkers and dog walkers as well as joggers and cyclists have to be prepared for obstacles - if the banks of the Isar Canal are part of their territory.
Erding - This is where tree care measures are now beginning - along the entire length between Oberföhring in the Munich district to Moosburg.
The Semptflutkanal in the northern district of Erding is also affected.
This is announced by the canal operator, Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH.
The work - mainly cutting back trees and bushes - will last until the end of February.
Uniper spokesman Theodoros Reum Schüssel said that some remaining work may still be necessary at the beginning of March.
Then the breeding season begins and the chainsaws have to stop.
“The background is to ensure traffic safety on the causeways.
Drought, storms, diseases and pests that weaken the trees, such as ash shoot dieback and bark beetles, have taken a serious toll on the tree population,” says Reum Schüssel.
That is why work took place in this area in autumn 2023 after two major storms to repair the storm break.
In addition, the number of trees on the dams and dikes must be reduced in places in order to continue to ensure the safety of the dams.
“The wood must be specifically removed, as root plates of large trees that erupt during a storm would cause serious damage to the dams,” said the spokesman.
He assures that the stocks would be examined in advance by a forester and a biologist, also to protect bats.
The wood is chopped and then used to generate heat.
Where forest workers, trucks and excavators are present, the paths must be closed.
Uniper asks everyone seeking relaxation not to circumvent the closures.
There is danger to life.
