It was
“the great story of the day in Reims”
, says the town hall of the city in a press release: Friday January 26, a pregnant woman on her way to the maternity ward gave birth with the help of the local municipal police, who were mobilized to supervise the mobilization of farmers, according to
L'Union
and
La Dépêche
.
On Friday, protesting farmers crossed the city of Reims as part of the national mobilization.
The municipal police were mobilized to close the procession.
But, when they arrived near the Saint-Brice bridge, it was a completely different event that required their intervention: a couple on their way to the maternity ward had to stop urgently in the face of the imminent arrival of their baby.
“Admirable composure”
The police immediately contacted the emergency services, but despite the
“very rapid”
progress of the latter, it was the team of three police officers – one of whom is a former firefighter – who helped the woman give birth to her daughter in her vehicle.
Mother and daughter were then taken care of by the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure (SMUR) and declared in good health, according to the Reims town hall.
“Our municipal police officers showed admirable composure in helping this young woman give birth on the road
,” declared the mayor of Reims, Arnaud Robinet, in the town hall press release.
“I would like to salute the courage of our agents who allowed everything to happen in the best conditions for this family, and to thank them sincerely,”
he added, before saluting the commitment of the municipal police
“ for the well-being of our fellow citizens.”
