Until recently, the Fischbachau pump track was always in jeopardy, but since last Monday the planned mogul track for cyclists seems to be over the mountain.

Fischbachau

– Not only the tendering for the work is imminent.

With a large majority, the Fischbachau local council has now also authorized Mayor Stefan Deingruber (CSU) to independently award the contract to the most economical provider in order to accelerate the project.

As is well known, the pump track can really use this turbo: many volunteers have been working on the facility for five years now.

As reported, the then ten-year-old Fabienne Nadjar got the idea rolling in 2019.

By collecting signatures, she opened the door to the current former mayor, Josef Lechner (CSU).

But the project was not realized as quickly as the incumbent at the time had hoped.

After initial difficulties and the slowing pandemic, it turned out that the location opposite the football field at Lehenpoint was - contrary to expectations - in the flood plain of the Leitzach.

The municipality solved the problem with retention areas, but due to the reduced Leader funding, there was suddenly a financing gap of 33,000 euros.

The citizens' response: The organizers collected the necessary money in just around two months through crowdfunding;

In the end, 4,000 euros more than the community had requested were received into the Raiffeisenbank donation account.

Planner: “Nothing stands in the way of construction”

Because of this enormous commitment alone, the local council can hardly question its general approval, said Michael Gartmaier (CSU) at Monday's meeting.

Bernhard Kaffl (FWG) had previously questioned whether the municipality would now also have to finance the costs for the retention areas and the fencing of the pump track.

Mayor Deingruber confirmed this, but pointed out that both requirements were only added during the approval process and were not foreseeable beforehand.

The fundamental concerns of Lothar Brack (New List) were also not discussed further in the committee.

Against two votes, the committee decided to authorize the mayor to award the contract if the expected total costs of 103,000 euros are not exceeded by more than 5,000 euros.

“Nothing now stands in the way of construction,” summarizes planner Andi Wittmann (Trailelements GmbH) the day after the decision.

In his experience, the systems were “accepted brutally quickly”.

Lots of people would come from day one.

“This is the modern playground of today,” explains the Fischbachau athlete.

The systems are in demand because they require new, different movements.

“It’s enriching in terms of coordination.”

Pump track in two parts

As reported, the pump track system consists of a section for smaller children, who can enjoy the asphalt track on balance bikes from around the age of two.

The larger part should be exciting for athletes of all ages.

“The curve radii are so perfectly coordinated that – with the right technique – you can drive through them without pedaling,” explains Wittmann.

The “pumping” movement, derived from English, also gives the system its name.

Because the athletes can become quite fast, the curves are steep in order to absorb the centrifugal forces.

“So that the grip is right and everything can roll perfectly, the grain of the asphalt is a little finer than that on the road,” says the planner.

The route, which covers around 100 meters on an area of around 1000 square meters, should definitely be built this year, Deingruber also assured.

“Otherwise the funding is completely gone.” nap
