The local newspaper's fundraising campaign raised 150,000 euros.

The symbolic check was handed over to the beneficiary projects.

District

- In 2023, readers of the local newspaper donated the second highest amount in the 39-year history of the “Readers Help Readers” campaign.

On Monday evening, the local newspaper and the district invited all beneficiaries to hand over the symbolic check.

This year, for the first time, the final event took place not in the district's meeting room, but in the Gasthof Maximilian in Gmund.

Each district citizen donated an average of 1.46 euros

“I can report a new record result this year,” said editorial director Stephen Hank.

12.85 million euros were raised.

“Unfortunately not for the 'Readers Helping Readers' campaign,” he added with a smile.

The considerable sum was raised at the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation's Star Hour Day.

“I was very impressed by how they raised 12.85 million euros in a very short time,” admitted Hank.

This time the donation campaign in the district was exactly 148,388.10 euros, and the Kreissparkasse Miesbach-Tegernsee rounded it up to 150,000 euros.

As a local newspaper you have a comparatively limited reach.

But if you compare the two donation amounts based on the population figures, says Hank, the proceeds suddenly don't seem so small anymore.

On the great day, each of the approximately 13 million people in Bavaria donated an average of 95 cents.

In the district, each of the 101,583 citizens would receive statistically 1.46 euros from “Readers Helping Readers”.

“The proceeds are great again,” said the editorial director happily.

After the record year of 2022, when around 170,000 euros were collected, last year saw the second-best result ever.

150,000 euros for Caritas and the Oberland Hospice support association

The enormous increase in the past two years also has to do with the beneficiaries of the campaign: “The more people identify with the campaign or the people, the more willing they are to donate.” The beneficiaries of the 2023 fundraising campaign are again “everyone Cents worth.”

As reported, these are the social services of Caritas, which offers energy advice for people with social benefits and low incomes through the “Energy-Plus” project and enables the replacement of electricity-consuming household appliances.

The project is funded with 33,500 euros.

The lion's share of 113,500 euros goes to the Oberland Hospice Association, which wants to invest the money in equipping the new hospice that is to be built in Bad Wiessee (we reported).

3,000 euros will also go to the district's social award, which was then presented to outstanding volunteers (report to follow).

Hank thanked the Kreissparkasse, which has supported the campaign financially and technically for years.

He also acknowledged the commitment of all donors and supporters and mentioned, among others, Heinz Viehweger, who had once again made his caricatures and sculptures available for auction.

As patron of the fundraising campaign, District Administrator Olaf von Löwis took the opportunity to thank the local newspaper for funding the social award.

Beneficiaries are happy to receive donations

The beneficiaries acknowledged the generous support with applause.

Josef Bogner, chairman of the hospice support association, compared the situation to a Grammy Awards: “I don’t know what to say.

I’m totally thrilled.” The support association has been working on the creation of the hospice for two years.

Bogner was now able to announce good news: demolition work on the Josefsheim in Bad Wiessee will begin on February 15th, and the hospice will be built in its place.

“This is the starting signal that we have all been waiting for for a very long time.” Bogner said that handing over the check was like a “knighthood” for the project.

Florian Rausch from the district management of Caritas Miesbach was also pleased about the “tremendous” donation amount.

He thanked all donors and supporters, as well as his team, who “got this project off the ground within a very short time.”

With the “Energy Plus” project, Caritas can respond to people’s current plight.

“All the money goes directly to those who need it,” promised Rausch.

He looks forward to the coming months with confidence.
