Highlights: Italian suit for astronauts International Space Station. It is produced by the Fano (PesaroUrbino) start-up Spacewear. SFS2 (Smart Flight Suit2) has passed all the tests, revisions and certifications required by NASA. The suit has superior breathability performance to fabrics with the same qualities, and guarantees the maintenance of body temperature. It was created with the aim of increasing the psychophysical comfort of the astronaut (it is assembled with over 200 pieces), and to monitor medical data.

The suit worn for the Ax-3 mission (Axiom Mission 3) in which astronaut Walter Villadei, pilot of the mission and colonel of the Air Force, is exclusively Italian.

It is produced by the Fano (PesaroUrbino) start-up Spacewear: it is called SFS2 (Smart Flight Suit2) and has passed all the tests, revisions and certifications required by NASA which establishes the requirements to be admitted and tested inside the International Space Station (ISS ).

"We are proud - says CorinnaSperandini of Spacewear - of this result obtained with great commitment, work, passion and effort, of the many skills and professionalism that believed in this project".

SFS2 is built with latest generation and innovative fabrics, featuring maximum fireproofing, resistance to liquids and fluids and lightness never achieved before.

Antistatic and antimagnetic, the suit has superior breathability performance to fabrics with the same qualities, and guarantees the maintenance of body temperature.

According to Sperandini, the suit "was created with the aim of increasing the psychophysical comfort of the astronaut (it is assembled with over 200 pieces), and to monitor medical data, increasing control and safety".

The challenge was "to make the material light, breathable and thermoregulating" and "to integrate data collection functions with comfort and design".

The collaboration with the Italian Air Force was "fundamental", giving rise to a mission with industrial implications of Made in Italy, with synergies between "scientists, engineers and design experts".

The SFS2 is the daughter of the SFS1 which was prepared and tested for the scientific mission of the Virtute 1 Air Force on Galactic flight 01 on 29 June 2023.
