Sergeant Major Yuval Nir, 43 years old from Kfar Etzion fell yesterday (Tuesday) in a battle in the southern Gaza Strip. Nir served as a fighter in the 6656 patrol battalion and fell together with the fighter Gabriel Shani in clashes with terrorists. He left behind a wife and five children. His funeral is being held at home The cemetery in Kfar Etzion.
On behalf of the Defense Forces, Lt. Col. Guy Midan eulogized him: "Yuval, you fell in battle while leading an attack on a terrorist house with the PLASAR.
After the first encounter it was clear that the house was fortified by terrorists waiting for the next team to try to climb to the second floor.
Even so, you didn't hesitate, and as always broke through with your head.
Anyone who knew you was not surprised.
You always led, initiated, and pushed to action out of evil, with humility, and above all out of love for Israel.
Yuval had a strange, crazy laugh that always infected others.
A smile and boundless optimism.
It was hard to catch him depressed or complaining."
"Yuval was a man and a fighter blessed with talents. A sharp and accurate marksman, an excellent navigator, who always led the PLASAR in every activity and operation.
A person with exceptional operational and tactical vision.
These qualities placed Yuval in his natural place - at the forefront of the fighting forces.
That's where he always aspired, and that's where he also fell.
Yuval fell when he was full of faith and righteousness through us.
He mobilized at the beginning of October with the rest of the brigade, and pushed for activity and initiative.
Upon entering the activity, Yuval turned and needed me for reinforcements from the brigade that was already operating in the north of the Gaza Strip, we were very happy for his arrival and he, as usual, excelled in combat and inspired the people around him.
I knew him 20 years ago, even then he was known for his courage and the actions he carried out at the Magen Wall."
Shlomo Naaman, the head of the Gush Etzion Council, wrote after the announcement of the fall of Rabbi Yuval Nir: "It would be better for our son to go out with Simchat Torah for the war of existence in Gaza.
Yuval, you fell as a hero in the most just war, in defense of the people and the country.
We send our condolences to the members of the extended Nir family and to the communities of Kfar Etzion and Migdal Oz, our beloved residents."
