Murnau is getting a new festival host: Jochen Mörz's family business will be responsible for the local Oktoberfest this year;

a continuation is possible.

The Fahrenschon company, with which the municipality also had legal proceedings, is now out of the game.

Murnau

– Young Jochen Mörz was particularly known to the ice hockey world: the striker from the Allgäu made countless appearances in the national jersey and played in the highest German league for many years.

Today, at the age of 66, he has long since made a name for himself in a completely different industry: with his Mörz Festzeltbetriebs GmbH.

Mörz reveals on its website that he took over the company based in Amberg from his father Josef in 1986.

Festwirt initially only 2024 - an extension is possible if you are satisfied

Today Jochen Mörz caters for spring, folk and autumn festivals throughout Bavaria and beyond, including Salzburg (Dult), Mammendorf, Freising, Puchheim, Fürstenfeldbruck - and Murnau.

Late on Tuesday afternoon, the community confirmed Tagblatt information that Mörz would be joining the town as a festival host this year.

The main committee discussed the issue in January and Mörz signed the agreement in the middle of the month.

This was initially only made for 2024. “If you are satisfied, an extension in subsequent years is possible,” explains town hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger.

Mörz is essentially on probation for a year.

New festival host, but the tried and tested concept remains

The Fahrenschon company had been responsible for the event in July for decades.

After disagreements, the market town forced the separation process from Fahrenschon GmbH & Co. KG, which had brought itself back into play in 2023 by means of an expedited court decision.

Mörz said on Monday when asked by Tagblatt about the Murnau Folk Festival that he “couldn’t comment on it at the moment”;

the following day the official confirmation from the community followed.

Mörz has also been looking for staff for its various events for a long time.

Among them: Murnau, scheduled for July 12th to 21st.

The tried and tested concept with a beer tent and amusement park is planned.

“The Mörz company is an experienced festival host,” says Röttinger.

“She has provided impeccable references for folk festivals and plans to continue the current format – beer tent operation and festival area with rides.”

Fahrenschon “did not sign a contract under the advertised conditions”

Anyone who speaks to people who know the background will always hear a story when asked how the surprising turn of events came about.

Apparently the Fahrenschon company missed a deadline.

The community has made an offer to the company, confirmed Christian Fahrenschon, who has transferred responsibility for the company to his children Maximilian and Anna-Maria, recently.

Apparently they still couldn't get together: "The Fahrenschon company has not signed a contract under the advertised conditions," says the town hall.

Maximilian Fahrenschon explained on Monday that he had heard “rumours” that there was competition.

However, he spoke of ongoing negotiations and that “we would definitely be happy” if Murnau came back into action - and that they are currently planning this folk festival.

Third generation family business

Just like Fürstenfeldbruck with Jochen Mörz and his family business, in which daughter Nadine and son Andreas are involved in the third generation.

Mörz has been “working as a festival host in Fürstenfeldbruck for around 30 years,” says city councilor and festival speaker Markus Droth.

“We have a very good, human relationship and a close relationship.” Mörz recently won another tender and has currently received a contract for the next few years.

“We have a reliable, good working relationship with the company.” Droth speaks of a “partner” who “continues to work” even in the face of headwinds.

Jochen Mörz holds the reins of the company.

He is open to new things and is someone “who can develop a festival further”.
