One must suffer to be beautiful.

For six weeks, in May and June, part of the traffic will be cut off in the Préfecture basin in Troyes (Aube).

Announced disruptions linked to the requalification of the Comte Henri quay.

As it did on the other side of the Seine, on the Quai La Fontaine in 2014, the City will reduce the number of traffic lanes.

There will only be one instead of two.

The maximum authorized speed will be reduced from 50 to 30 km/h.

The objective?

Take a walk around the Prefecture basin and create a cycle path.

“The goal is to erase the natural boundaries between the body and the head of the Champagne Cork,” says Mayor François Baroin.

The Trojans will thus be able to benefit from the entire perimeter of the prefecture basin.

In order to promote soft mobility in the heart of the city, Troyes will develop the quays of the Seine near the prefecture to create a promenade which will allow you to make a cycle loop.

The work will begin in the first days of April and is expected to be completed by summer, when the tourist season is in full swing.

Cost of the operation?

500,000 euros.

These traffic routes are currently among the most used in the city.

7,400 vehicles pass through the Comte Henri quay every day.

On the other hand, it receives fewer votes among cyclists.

Only 218 daily passages according to the latest figures.

To reverse the trend, the space allocated to cars will therefore be reduced.

Goodbye to the nineteen parking spaces along the prefecture.

It is now bicycles, on 1.50 m of cycle lane, which will circulate there.

Furthermore, the width of the promenade, on the other side of the roadway, will be 2.90 m.

Trees in steel pots

Initially, around four weeks, traffic will not be interrupted during the work.

They will only concern the sidewalk, that is to say the development of the cycle lane.

On the other hand, at the start of the “walk” part, the Comte Henri quay will be blocked and diversions will be put in place.

Landscaping is also planned for the fall but the City has had to deal with technical constraints and will not be able to plant trees.

A combined pipe bringing together wastewater and rainwater is in fact located under the future promenade.

It is therefore trees in steel pots which will brighten up this island of freshness where walkers, cyclists and motorists are called to coexist in complete serenity.

Slowly but surely, like the exponential deployment of Marcel, the city's self-service electric bike rental system, soft mobility is making its mark in Troyes.
