"The immediate task: to save the Palestinian Authority" is the name of a document published last week by the "Mativim" Institute and the Berel Katznelson Foundation, to outline policies and methods of action for "the day after".
The authors of the document offer action strategies against the positions of the right-wing public, while taking advantage of the defensive situation in which it is currently.
"Without a strengthened Palestinian Authority, Israel will be mired in the mud of Gaza," read the messages that readers of the document are required to memorize.
"The settlers harm Israel's security: Netanyahu, Ben Gabir, Smotrich and Hamas strive for a common goal".
And perhaps the most insidious of all: "The Palestinian Authority provides an essential contribution to Israel's security in the West Bank."
Just as they sat and divided the world after the world wars, even today the Western countries believe that they have the power to bring a solution to this war-torn region over everyone's head.
In order to market such a fantasy vision, it needs to be shaped like plasticine.

These messages are taking root in the contemporary public discourse - about two weeks after the outbreak of the war, former senior officials have already repeated them in the studios, and current senior officials echoed them in a stutter.

So even if there is Palestinian consent to a demilitarized and controlled state as the US and Israel demand (and there is none), this is far from guaranteeing the end of the cycle of terrorism in the region. Economic interests of normalization with Saudi Arabia, alongside Western and internal interests to abolish the Jewish state and leave the same democracy for all its citizens, in which the Jewish majority is not guaranteed.
