Entertainment site TMZ was the first to report that the parents are accused of tampering with evidence, including a laptop belonging to the boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, left in the couple's Miami apartment and recovered by the father.
According to the Obumseli family's lawyer, the parents are
accused of
deleting information
related to the case.
Neither NBC News nor Noticias Telemundo have verified these allegations.

A lawyer for Courtney Clenney stated that the “Clenney family has been the target of trumped-up charges to discredit them in the press and make their lives miserable.”
“It seems excessive that the family is now confined in jail awaiting an extradition hearing in what may be
an attempt to manipulate media headlines
and discredit them ahead of Thursday's scheduled hearing on a gag order from the case,” the lawyer said in a statement sent to the local station NBC Miami.
Courtney Clenney was charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon after a physical altercation left Obumseli
dead from a stab wound on April 3, 2022,
in his Miami apartment.
Her lawyers allege that it was an act of self-defense.
The couple had been dating since November 2020. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernández Rundle has said it was
an “extremely tempestuous and combative” relationship.
Building administrators at their apartment complex documented multiple instances of heated arguments between the couple.
Clenney allegedly kicked Obumseli out of the home a week before the stabbing over allegations of abuse.
NBC News obtained Obumseli's cellphone recordings made before his death, in which Clenney
says a racial slur to him during an intense argument.
The Obumseli family's lawyer mentioned that the recording shows Clenney "out of control" and "unhinged."
