Meta, Discord, X (ex-Twitter), Snap and TikTok will be in the dock this Wednesday.
The CEOs of the five social media giants, Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Linda Yaccarino (X), Shou Zi Chew (TikTok), Evan Spiegel (Snap) and Jason Citron (Discord), will answer questions from US senators on
“their failure to protect children on the Internet,”
according to the terms of the summons.
The atmosphere promises to be tense before the Judicial Commission, with X, Discord and Snap having repeatedly refused to appear.
“We knew from the start that our efforts to protect children online would be met with hesitation by Big Tech,”
write Democrat Dick Durbin and Republican Lindsey Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee
.
They are finally forced to recognize their failure in child protection.
