Directors and artistic directors earn a lot of money at public broadcasters such as ARD and ZDF.
But that should change soon.
Munich - How much directors at ARD really earn has been increasingly discussed against the backdrop of the Schlesinger affair at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB).
A report on broadcasters' financial issues highlights another aspect.

The study was commissioned by the Commission for Determining the Financial Requirements of Broadcasting Corporations (KEF).
Every two years, the KEF presents the financial situation of the public broadcasters on over 400 pages so that the state governments can get an overview.
And she looks very closely every time.
After all, the monthly broadcasting fee largely finances public broadcasters.
Detailed interim report reveals above-average salaries at ZDF and ARD
The KEF makes recommendations on the level of broadcasting fees and provides a detailed interim report.
In the current report you can read the salaries of the directors and directors of the institutions and the level of above-average remuneration is remarkable.
Clear suggestion from the KEF: Less for those who have earned the most so far
Also included in the report is a clear proposal from the KEF.
The Commission has certain ideas for the remuneration of middle management: From now on, clear rules should be drawn up.
And there are also changes for managers.
The KEF wants to create a common framework to be applied to executive compensation.
It goes even further: we are talking about significant reductions.
At least a quarter of a million a year: Directors at ZDF and ARD receive huge salaries
According to media reports, around 24,000 employees will have worked at the broadcasters in 2022.
According to the
KEF
's investigations , 335 of them were paid above or beyond the collective agreement.
The directors and directors of public institutions should receive gross salaries in the range between 245,000 and 414,000 euros.
A famous example is ZDF man Jan Böhmermann.
The presenter of the show “ZDF Magazin Royale” and the podcast “Fest & Fluschig” is apparently paid handsomely for his work – allegedly even better than director Norbert Himmler.
Likewise the ARD boss: He is said to earn as much as Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The icing on the cake for the directors will be remuneration of between 156,000 and 270,000 euros.
The remaining 272 employees with non-standard and above-tariff salaries will then receive gross salaries of up to 172,000 euros.

KEF's
personnel concepts show that the efforts between the individual institutions vary greatly.
They are only united by the fact that the level of remuneration is higher than in the public sector.
According to the
KEF's
22nd report, the overall remuneration level of the public broadcasters BR, HR, SR, WDR and ZDF was well above average.
