Schliersee is heading towards a referendum.

The initiators of the citizens' initiative "Preserve Schliersee's beauty - no megahotel on the lake" handed over around 1,320 signatures to Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer.

Schliersee – The further formal path is easy.

The administration checks the signatures, then the request goes to the local authority supervisory authority.

Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU): “We will have the question pre-examined.” Next it is the turn of the local council, which has to decide on the admissibility.

The committee could then pursue the project-related development plan in accordance with the citizens' initiative, which would make a referendum obsolete.

Schnitzenbaumer also believes that it is very likely that there will be a referendum.

There are three months left from the decision to call citizens to the polls.

The initiators' goal: new building not much larger and higher than the existing one

As is well known, the request is directed against the size of the new building plans for the Schlierseer Hof.

As is often the case in comparable cases, the initiators, who also include local councilors from the Greens, Die Schlierseer and PWG, affirm that they are not against a new building per se, but against the dimensions.

“Too big, too dominant,” says Alexander von Schoeler, spokesman for the initiative.

The signatories of the citizens' initiative advocate that "the current size of the development is not significantly exceeded" and that "a maximum building height is set that does not exceed the height of the current hotel".

That would be 16.80 meters instead of the targeted 24 meters.

On its homepage, this initiative lists a number of other arguments and doubts that, in its view, speak against the plans that the majority of the local council supports.

Client criticizes animation: “I would have signed there too”

Walter de Alwis, owner of the Schlierseer Hof, says he is “glad that things are now moving on”.

The 69-year-old is not surprised that the initiative collected far more than the required 700 signatures.

Given the animation designed by the other side, “I would have signed that too”.

The two sides accuse each other of working with inaccurate information or half-truths.

De Alwis is accused of only mentioning the ground floor given the building's length of almost 84 meters (on the street).

From the first floor it is 90 meters.

Information evenings at the Schlierseer Hof have already been scheduled - a panel discussion is planned

Before a referendum, the people of Schliersee will probably have plenty of time and opportunity to find out about the perspectives of both sides.

De Alwis, for example, has already scheduled three information evenings at Schlierseer Hof, on Thursdays February 22nd and 29th and March 7th.

Each event begins at 6:30 p.m.

They will probably be invited to another event on a larger scale.

He would also be happy to take part in a panel discussion or, for example, inform parties directly.

He was already with the SPD.

For the hotelier, it's about much more than "one meter higher or lower", but rather the question: "What's in it for Schliersee?" Answers can be found, among other things, on a homepage where de Alwis talks about the 55 million euro hotel. Project informed.

He says he has already received a lot of support.

As is well known, his son Marcel (25) will run the house.

The local council does not oppose the citizen's request

Schnitzenbaumer does not dare to estimate whether critics or supporters are in the majority.

He heard voices from both directions and supports the idea of a panel discussion.

And one thing can already be said: there will be no request for advice.

“There is a clear question that can be answered with yes or no.”

The citizens' petition page can be found on the Internet at www.buergerentscheid-schliersee.de and the Schlierseer Hof project page can be found at www.zukunft-schlierseerhof.de.
