 The effigy of the sculpture of the Warrior of Capestrano appears for the first time in the new banner of the Abruzzo Region

: the new coat of arms was presented in Chieti after the decision of the Regional Council for a renewal.

In addition to the traditional Samnite shield with three bands of colors, one of the iconic figures of Abruzzo appears in the coat of arms.

The work bears the signature of the master Mimmo Paladino, exponent of the Italian Transavantgarde;

under the shield is the motto "Gentium vel fortissimarum Italiae", a quote from Pliny the Elder.

In the museum, which houses the statue of the Warrior, the president of the Region, Marco Marsilio, and the president of the regional council, Lorenzo Sospiri

, were present, welcomed by the director Patrizia Colarossi, while Paladino appeared in a video message.

"We like to think that we are giving back to the Warrior of Capestrano his ancient function: guardian to protect his people - said Marsilio. Beyond the geographical identification of the territory, it is an identity symbol that unites all the people of Abruzzo. It was of the Regional Council a great leap in quality: it was important that the approval of the new coat of arms took place unanimously because a coat of arms, a symbol, does not belong to a party, to a majority, but belongs to everyone".

    "President Marsilio was the president who truly united all of Abruzzo, surpassing any bell tower - said Sospiri for his part -. We thought it was right and appropriate to include, in the coat of arms made up of the three colors that distinguish our landscape, a identity symbol in which all Abruzzo people could recognize themselves. To look to the future we must recall our roots, the most distant, the most solid. For this reason we decided to include the figure of the Capestrano Warrior within the banner of the Abruzzo Region , the most important archaeological find in our region, dating back to the 6th century, with the addition of a quote from Pliny the Elder, which demonstrates how many centuries ago the strength, determination and ability of the Abruzzo people to roll up their sleeves was known ".
