Parents from Untergiesing are calling for a zebra crossing at the daycare center on Säbener Straße.
Not only would the childcare facility for the little ones benefit, the way to school would also be safer, according to the parents.
When schools switched to homeschooling during the Corona pandemic, the number of accidents on the way to school also fell.
However, numbers are now approaching pre-pandemic levels again.
And every year it becomes clear: school children in Munich live dangerous lives.
This doesn't go unnoticed by the moms and dads from Untergiesing.
Parents complain about speeders
The parents' council of the city's "Haus für Kinder" on Säbener Straße is therefore calling for a zebra crossing to be set up.
“It is well known that cars are often driven very fast on Säbener Straße,” is the justification for the demand.
“A zebra crossing would significantly improve the traffic safety of our children and would probably also lead to a reduction in speed on Säbener Straße,” explained the parents in a letter that they sent to the responsible district committee (BA) Untergiesing-Harlaching, and which the district politicians were now discussing .
Elementary school students would also benefit
However, not only children who come from the so-called South Tyrolean quarter to several daycare centers would benefit, but also the students from the nearby primary school on Rotbuchenstrasse and churchgoers to “Holy Family”.
So it would be a win-win-win situation, argue the moms and dads.
This is probably one of the reasons why the BA unanimously approved the parents' council's proposal across all factions.
In the best case scenario, the new zebra crossing could make a small contribution to keeping the accident statistics on the way to school low.
