“We hope to be more serene in 2024,” says Rosa Esteves.

It is true that last year, the defenders of the André-Malraux social center (CSAM), in Villepinte, of which it is a part, had to fight for a long time to ensure the sustainability of this structure of 13 employees, the only one of this type in the municipality.

Located in a priority district of the city, it had several thousand beneficiaries in spring 2023. By granting it, on December 9, an exceptional subsidy of 50,000 euros, the municipal council allows its management to see the coming in coming months.

Elected in opposition, Mélissa Youssouf (EELV) believes that the town hall is playing “arsonist firefighter”.

Because nine months before the vote for this welcome aid, the elected representatives of the majority of Villepinte had voted to halve the annual subsidy from the CSAM.

Its amount amounted to 110,000 euros, compared to 210,000 euros in 2022 and 250,000 euros in 2021.

“Support for this center can no longer be done with a blank check”

This decision by Mayor Martine Valleton (LR) provoked several citizen mobilizations, during a municipal council meeting or in front of town hall.

“Support for this center (…) can no longer be done at any price, with a blank check,” said the first magistrate of Villepinte.

Martine Valleton indicated that she wanted to find new funding.

This is done, the City citing “a confirmation of the granting of annual subsidies of 131,000 euros from the Île-de-France Region, the CAF and the State”.

The regional council has committed to paying a sum of 50,000 euros, “40,000 euros in investment, to fight against digital precarity, and 10,000 euros in operation for the parenting space”, specifies Farida Adlani, vice-president of the regional council and elected by the majority in Villepinte.

Mélissa Youssouf (EELV), also vice-president of the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis, announces that the community chaired by Stéphane Troussel (PS) will also support the social center, citing the sum of 20,000 euros.

“The CSAM and the municipality of Villepinte, however, remain awaiting notification of financial support from the departmental council,” indicates the municipality in the latest issue of the municipal magazine.
