Don't say we didn't know, we didn't hear, we thought we were dreaming: it is allowed (and desirable) to exercise before bed, it is best to fall asleep in front of the TV, and four more myths about sleep that should make you snort with laughter

Sleep is an important thing.

It allows the body to relax and recharge for the next day, and provides us with a necessary stop from the daily race of life.

Over the years, quite a few myths related to sleep have spread, which cause damage because they encourage unhealthy habits.

We enlisted the help of Forefront to smash them.

1. It doesn't matter what time of day you sleep,

the time you go to bed and get up is important.

Our circadian rhythm is significantly affected by natural sunlight.

People who work night shifts or a schedule other than the typical 5 to 9 often experience health problems.

2. One good night takes a long-lasting price.

Sleep cannot be perfect every night, and stress during the day can affect sleep and disrupt it, to the point of complete lack of sleep all night.

The negative effects of one night without sleep are short-term, and are resolved with the help of recovery sleep and returning to a normal sleep schedule.

3. "I wish I could fall asleep anytime and anywhere"

A tendency to fall asleep immediately may be a sign of a chronic state of insomnia. A healthy person takes about 15 to 20 minutes or more to fall asleep.

4. You can live with less than 5 hours of sleep a night

Adults need about 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night for optimal health.

Sleeping less than 7 hours a night can cause various health problems - from obesity to diabetes and increased stress, in addition to problems with judgment.

5. Watching TV is a good way to relax before going to bed

Watching TV before going to bed may create a link in the brain between the bed and things other than sleep, thus preventing the body from falling asleep.

Watching small screens such as laptops or smartphones, which heat up because of this, causes the body temperature to rise - another thing that interferes with falling asleep.

Watching suspenseful or upsetting content is also not recommended.

6. It is forbidden to exercise 4 hours before bedtime.

There is no absolute scientific evidence that physical activity close to bedtime interferes with sleep.

It seems that physical activity and sleep actually benefit each other, what's more, physical activity can help reduce stress, thus reducing difficulty falling asleep.
