How much can a schnitzel cost?
A fan sparked this discussion with a photo from Munich.
And a yellow bag on the plate is also debated.
Munich – There is a clear tendency to exaggerate in this Reddit group, as the name suggests: “Schnitzel Crime” is the name of a community with almost 60,000 members.
There, people post schnitzel variants that they consider to be a possible no-go (recently, among others, “vegetarian Bolognese schnitzel”).
But also so-called “reference schnitzel” – the ultimate for fans of this dish.
33 euro schnitzel from Munich: customer thinks it's great, but the price is borderline
A photo that is said to have been taken in Munich received more than 100 comments in three days.
More precisely, in the Freisinger Hof in Munich-Oberföhring.
Although the user does not provide any verification, it is almost certain that he ate it there.
The Wiener Schnitzel is on the menu for exactly this price with exactly these side dishes - parsley potatoes and Tyrolean cranberries.
The restaurant even advertises that it is “the best schnitzel in town.”
“Although a reference, but 33 euros borders on crime,” is the alleged guest’s verdict on his photo.
So the perfect dish at a price too high for him?
Of course both are exaggerated.
Unsurprisingly, many people weigh in on both topics.

The Wiener Schnitzel itself is viewed critically.
“The breading looks pale and greasy.
“Reference works differently,” says one, although several people said it was due to the photo quality.
The photo edited by a user is then closer to the original, says the thread opener: “Yes, that looks much better, I have no idea what the iPhone did there.” Several users doubt that it is without a taste test is a “reference schnitzel”, but Google reviews such as “The best schnitzel in all of Bavaria” or “rarely had such a good schnitzel” suggest that the Freisinger Hof is not such a bad place to go.

Some people also notice the yellow bag in the photo.
“Now be honest, what is that in the paper?” one user wants to know.
“Why is there a lemon in my tights?” another in Bavarian.
The question is promptly clarified: “Lemon, this makes it very pleasant to squeeze and no seeds fall on the schnitzel,” they say.
Or also: “Actually standard in upscale restaurants.”

33 euros too much for a Wiener Schnitzel in Munich?

A Berlin innkeeper declared his schnitzel price to be 43 euros.
In contrast, the 33 euros are almost a bargain in a city like Munich that is considered expensive.
But still too high for many.
“You shouldn’t buy shares in the restaurant straight away,” jokes one.
“I have to work for three hours for that” and “I’m missing the caviar and champagne for that price,” other users note.
One person says the price is right.
“For a veal schnitzel, breaded and pounded yourself, 33 euros is absolutely fair, especially in Munich.
The yellow lemon sachets aren't cheap either.
We also use them in the restaurant, speaking from experience.” Several other reactions also go in this direction: “Schnitzels in the restaurant are a luxury good.
If there is a lot of manual work involved and it doesn’t come from factory farming, a price like that can be justified.”
How nerdy the schnitzel community is can also be seen in a comment that received several hundred likes: “A reference schnitzel must never touch the side dish.” Well then... The topic of schnitzel always causes discussions online: An adult was refused a children's schnitzel.
And another restaurant visitor got mad because her extra request resulted in extra costs.
