Former TUM President Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann encouraged a spirit of optimism in Moosburg.

He also provided an anecdote about his son, the Minister of State.

Moosburg

– It was an entertaining and thought-provoking trip around the world, to which around 150 guests were invited by the Moosburg CSU.

Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann, the long-standing President of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), a world traveler and strong speaker, was invited to the New Year's reception.

“The native of Lower Bavaria and Freisinger loves being in the Three Roses City,” said Herrmann in greeting.

But after the local start, he quickly embarked on a world tour with a scientific eye.

“Even if the politicians no longer talk to each other, the scientists will still talk,” was the message of the chemist and long-time president of the TUM.

The (un)retired man reported that he was currently involved in the founding of a university in Uzbekistan.

As TUM President, he had already established a university in Singapore, and they were also close to a German-Russian university in Moscow.

“That was a Stoiber idea,” joked Prof. Herrmann about the project, which ultimately failed due to language barriers.

There are no one-sided dependencies, as some clever people would have us believe.

Basically, he had a special message for his audience: “We are all interdependent around the world.

There are no one-sided dependencies, as some clever people would have us believe.” The former university boss spoke about democracy (“the most difficult and most beautiful form of government”), education (“every euro is well invested here”) and the limits of artificial intelligence (“I still write my own speeches”).

With regard to the further development of educational technology, he told the people of Moosburger to remember that “the world will continue to turn if we don’t take part.

So we should join in.” Herrmann made it clear that this was not just the responsibility of the scientists.

“Because the craftsman also needs his head to be successful.”

Childhood anecdote about the son and minister of state

The professor is the father of Florian Herrmann, the Freising state parliament member and head of the state chancellery.

He was unable to attend the reception, but his father gave him an anecdote: “When he started kindergarten at the age of three and a half, I said: Go there and learn English.

Today this is an important qualification in the Bavarian cabinet.”

Before the exciting keynote speech, the Moosburg CSU local chairman Maximilian Mader expressed his fears for prosperity and the economy.

But he also criticized people's “attitude towards work and excessive expectations”.

The developments are already leaving their mark in his city: “With our budget, we in Moosburg are feeling the growing pressure of the global political situation.”
