More visitors and significantly less deficit than in the previous edition: The Penzberg “Ice Fairy Tale” 2023/2024 on natural ice gave the city a good result.

Penzberg - Organizer Monika Engel from the town hall presented the final figures at the city council meeting last Tuesday evening (January 30th).

As a result, 10,151 ice skating fans were counted in the town square on 29 opening days.

These included 831 children under the age of six, 6,197 children up to 17 years old and 768 children from school classes and daycare centers - young people are the main target group of the event.

For comparison: On the 2022/2023 synthetic track variant, there were only 8,206 visitors on 37 days.

Pleasing: According to the city administration, there were no noise complaints this time due to the “Ice Fairytale” operation.

48 sponsors made the cash registers ring

This time the expenditure fell significantly to 103,800 euros compared to almost 199,000 euros a year earlier.

And also well below the original estimate of 150,000 euros, which the city council had approved as a benchmark.

The income climbed to 94,800 euros (69,500 euros) - which was mainly due to the sharp increase in advertising income of 41,300 euros thanks to at least 48 sponsors.

“Real ice simply speaks for itself.”

Minus 8900 euros is bearable

In the end, the city was left with a loss of only 8,900 euros, as Engel calculated.

For comparison: after the 2022/2023 edition there was a loss of a whopping 129,000 euros.

Engel’s satisfied conclusion: “Real ice simply speaks for itself.”

No noise complaints

Numbers that caused applause in the committee.

The decision in favor of the natural ice surface was recognized across all political groups - and that the city council had spoken out in favor of the “ice fairy tale” in the first place.

John-Christian Eilert (Greens) even saw the successful effort to save costs as a role model for city spending: “This could be expanded to other areas.”

Also pleasing from the organizers’ point of view: noise complaints from the neighborhood, as in previous years , there was no “ice fairy tale” this time, said Engel.
