The “ice fairy tale” last winter resulted in a loss of almost 9,000 euros, a fraction of the deficit in the winter of 2022/2023.

This increases the chances that there will be a new edition next winter.

The chances are increasing that there will be an “ice fairy tale” in Penzberg next winter too.

The city presented the financial balance sheet to the city council on Tuesday: The deficit was almost 9,000 euros - which is a fraction of the deficit that arose in the “Ice Tale” a year ago.

Penzberg – There was applause in the Penzberg city council on Tuesday evening when city employee and “Ice Tale” organizer Monika Engel presented the numbers.

Accordingly, the “Ice Fairy Tale” had a deficit of only 8,973.09 euros this winter.

For comparison: In the winter of 2022/23, the deficit was around 129,000 euros, which led to a debate about the future of the “ice fairy tale”.

This time no one has to fall off their chair

“I hope that you all sit down and no one falls off their chair.” Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) announced the deep red numbers for the “ice fairy tale” 2022/2023 to the city council a year ago.

On Tuesday, however, everyone could sit back and relax.

There was also a lot of praise for the organizer.

A decision about the “ice fairy tale” next winter was not yet on the agenda.

However, all groups expressed the wish that it should take place again.

Natural ice rink costs only half as much as synthetic rink

According to Monika Engel's financial balance sheet, the expenses this time (almost 104,000 euros) were only half as high as last year.

This was mainly because the natural ice rink cost half as much as the slightly larger synthetic rink and the city saved on security, sound and light.

In addition, the “ice fairy tale” only ran for 30 days instead of 37.

Despite the shorter ice season, income this winter was higher than a year ago.

They amounted to just under 95,000 euros (a year ago it was just under 70,000 euros).

The higher number of visitors (10,151 ice skaters) led to higher ticket revenue.

The higher number of advertising partners also brought more money into the till, this time 48 instead of 33.

Wish for a new edition

CSU parliamentary group leader Maria Probst recalled that the “ice fairy tale” decision a year ago was somewhat controversial.

“But I’m glad we did it because it was an incredibly great event.” Probst said she would like there to be an “ice fairy tale” next year too.

“The numbers are really great.” She also gave suggestions for improvement: a larger ice surface again, larger containers, as it was very tight at peak times, and a little background music.

It doesn't have to be party music, she said.

Cost-effective next time?

Wolfgang Sacher (BfP) also spoke out in favor of the “Ice Fairy Tale” taking place again next winter.

“I'm pleased that things turned out so well financially.” But he warned against calling for a larger ice surface right away.

In his opinion, the goal must be to organize the “ice fairy tale” cost-neutrally.

Sacher, who highlighted the enormous number of sponsors, suggested calling on the population for earmarked donations.

At least one disco evening next winter?

In view of the numbers, SPD parliamentary group leader Adrian Leinweber said there was probably no need to discuss whether the “ice fairy tale” would take place again next winter.

He also reported that many visitors would like to hear music again.

When asked by Jack Eberl (FLP) whether there had been noise complaints this time, organizer Monika Engel replied that this was not the case.

Eberl then explained that one was allowed to exceed the decibel limit on a limited number of days, so at least one disco evening could be organized next winter.

However, according to Engel, this would result in costs for light and sound that were not incurred this winter.

Electricity costs were missing from the bill

John-Christian Eilert (Greens) said on behalf of his group that they were pleased that they had tried to save money here.

“This should be expanded to other areas.” Music and larger containers would also be nice next winter.

At the same time, Eilert noted (“You have to be so honest”) that the electricity costs and internal costs, i.e. for the building yard and city administration, were missing from the bill.

Anette Völker-Rasor (PM) asked that these numbers be included in the future.

Organizer Engel explained that these figures had not been included in the calculation in previous years and that they were not taken into account this time either for reasons of comparison.

Jack Eberl said that if these numbers are included in the calculation, “then I add the economic development” that the “ice fairy tale” brings to Penzberg.

“Then we won’t get minus 9,000 euros, but probably plus 20,000.”
