The lawyer and former local councilor Jens Müller (Independent Voters' Association Kochel/UWK) is the new mayor of Kochel.

The 55-year-old now took his oath of office.

Kochel - In the runoff election last Sunday (January 28th), Jens Müller clearly had 60.2 percent of the vote.

On Tuesday evening (January 30th), the 55-year-old Müller was sworn in at the local council meeting.

Election means an end to the CSU dominance in the town hall executive chair

“Every single vote is a mandate for me to fulfill the office of mayor with full commitment,” said Müller in his inaugural speech to the local councilors and visitors in the meeting room of the Kochler town hall.

With UWK man Müller, the mayoral chapter in Kochel's history that has been titled “Once CSU, always CSU” in recent years ends.

As before, Thomas Eberl from the UWK will hold the office of Second Mayor.

The CSU also remains the strongest faction.

The mayor of Schlehdorf, Stefan Jocher, was the first to congratulate the new town hall boss on election evening.

Schlehdorf forms an administrative community with Kochel an Kochel.

“Kochel needs a doer, not an administrator.”

In his inaugural speech to the local councilors and interested citizens, Müller thanked the Kochler voters a second time for the encouragement - but also to those "who did not vote for me, but went to the polls".

The new mayor quoted from conversations with residents who said: “Kochel needs a doer, not an administrator.” Müller promised to be there for all citizens and to take more care of those in the districts.

He could imagine holding a local council meeting in Ried and Walchensee once a year.

Local design, living space and village shop in Walchensee are topics for the new mayor of Kochl

As a “carer of the community”, the issues from the election campaign are binding for Müller.

The new town hall boss mentioned, for example, local planning and housing provision or questions about the revival of a village shop in Walchensee or the flea market in Kochel.

It is still unclear who will succeed Jens Müller on the local council for the UWK.

According to the list position in the 2020 local elections, Maria Bäck, the only woman among the UWK candidates at the time, would move up.
