“I believe that the lack of labor has reached an alert threshold in Cabourg,” explains the mayor, Emmanuel Porcq.
Last summer, in fact, a number of businesses, particularly in the hotel and catering sector, were forced to close sometimes one day a week or even more... due to a lack of sufficient seasonal workers!
“However, one of the major issues at the origin of this tension is housing.
The Grand Hôtel, the thalassotherapy center, and a number of shops, everyone is faced with it.

Faced with this cascading problem, the municipality announced the construction of a place of accommodation, specifically dedicated to seasonal workers.
The town decided to acquire the former Auberge Cabourgeaise, a building well known to locals.
“We are buying it to make it an attractive accommodation building for seasonal workers.
We also have the opportunity to buy adjoining land,” continues the mayor.
46 apartments, from T1 to T6
The town hall is therefore responsible for purchasing the land.
But for the rest, it is the traders themselves who should invest in this housing.
No less than 46 apartments, from T1 to T6 could thus see the light of day, allowing employers to accommodate seasonal workers and even sometimes their families when the situation requires it.
“Last summer, we were missing at least… 15 seasonal workers!
Which forces us to modify our services, even though there is no shortage of candidates.
We just don't have a solution to accommodate them.
And so they don't come.
Suffice it to say that we are more than in favor of the construction of housing aimed at solving this crucial gap for us,” greets Gaëlle Grelat, director of the Grand Hôtel.
