Adele will appear at least four times in Munich in August.

The pop-up stadium, which holds 80,000 people, was designed especially for them in the trade fair city of Riem.

Four men worked behind the scenes on the Munich coup for months.

Munich - Euphoria and relief are palpable in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

Organizer Klaus Leutgeb sees Munich's economic advisor Clemens Baumgärtner, falls on the CSU man's neck and hits him on the broad shoulders like an anvil.

“Yesterday at 10:30 p.m. everything was dry,” he calls out to the reporters from Münchner Merkur, who are allowed to take part in this exclusive meeting on Wednesday.

Concert manager legend Marek Lieberberg agrees: “Because the project had a year’s notice, we had to sprint incredibly in the last few meters.”

But it's done, and Adele herself shared it with her fans all over the world via Instagram: Yesterday morning at exactly eight o'clock she posted a sophisticated black and white photo of herself with the words "Adele in Munich" in white and gold letters. .

Pop star Adele is coming to Munich for at least four concerts

It's a sensation.

The 35-year-old superstar (“Rolling In the Deep”, “Chasing Pavements”, “Hello”) will give four concerts in Munich in August, and an open-air arena for 80,000 people is being built on the exhibition grounds pounded.

It will have a diameter of 300 meters and will be designed by Florian Wieder from Munich, a star of the scene who has already built the boards that mean the world for Beyoncé, Rammstein and many more (as well as the stages of the ESC, the Emmys and the Grammys).

Adele has not performed in Europe since 2016 - and the concerts in the Isar metropolis will be the only ones.

If there is enough demand, there could be up to ten.

So there Leutgeb, Baumgärtner, Wieder and Lieberberg are sitting among oil paintings, stucco and gold leaf and are still stunned that they pulled off this coup for Munich.

In the end, designer Wieder had to provide even more concrete representations of his stage - hence the stress in the last few meters.

“Adele belongs to the category of artists who decide everything for themselves – and have the highest standards,” he explains.

She said yes.

Organizers succeed in coup: Adele gets “her own world” in Munich

Something historic has already been achieved, and that becomes clear here.

Because the race could clearly have ended in favor of metropolises like London or Paris.

In the end, the four excited men agree that it could only work as a harmonious team: the Austrian Leutgeb, with his hipster horn-rimmed glasses, easily takes over the role of the positive crazy one.

He originally only discovered Riem as a venue because he found out via Google that 250,000 people had listened to Pope Benedict on the open-air site here in 2006.

So you can also believe him that he simply had the idea for the concert series two years ago.

He and Wieder were met with interest in their request.

“We met Adele for the first time in LA in August 2023,” says Leutgeb.

The concept is seductive for an artist: the singer gets a stage tailored to her body in Riem.

“A world of her own that she can own as she pleases,” explains Florian Wieder.

The superstar is currently visiting Las Vegas – for a total of 50 weekends.

The Riemer stage is modeled on the intimacy of the casino shows, says the designer.

“Adele really enjoys chatting with her audience – and we’re just scaling it up.” So there are a lot of catwalks, “she’ll do a lot.

At some point the moment will come for each of the 80,000 people when they will be close to her.” This performance cannot be compared to a normal concert, which is limited simply by the constant set-up and dismantling as part of a tour.

Again one thing is certain: “It will be the best concerts Adele has ever given.”

The trade fair city of Riem is being strengthened as a concert location

Clemens Baumgärtner, on the other hand, didn't exactly have to drill thin boards.

He doesn't want to read any details in the newspaper - but the project didn't have an easy time with parts of the city administration. He is particularly happy for the trade fair.

“It will be strengthened as a concert location – which will also be important once the Olympic Park is renovated.” This will in no way be weakened by the major event.

“It’s fully booked.”

“Then nothing stands in the way of your canonization,” jokes Marek Lieberberg.

The 77-year-old established pop as a major event in Germany with his Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson concerts in the 1980s.

But he can also see that this is something special - which of course could not have been achieved without his network.

But he emphasizes: “We deliberately used Munich as an argument with Adele.”

The city is actually the trump card of this application.

Centrally located for an influx from all over Europe, with an airport and an infrastructure that can handle the largest folk festival in the world once a year.

And: “Munich is a big city like no other,” enthuses Lieberberg.

“Other cities have history but are without history.”

Adele confirms coup via Instagram: “A bit random, but amazing!”

Adele appears a little surprised by her choice on Instagram.

She's actually happy with the commitment she currently has in Las Vegas, that's all she needed.

However, the offer did make her curious: “A unique, tailor-made pop-up stadium, designed for any type of show that I want to put on stage?

Ohh!?

From now on, in the middle of Europe?

In Munich?" And then the enthusiasm bursts out of her: "It's a bit coincidental, but still amazing!

Right after the European Football Championship?

And with the Olympics next door?

And with some of my favorite artists who also play shows?” She probably means the colleagues from Coldplay, who will be performing at the Olympic Stadium on August 15th, 17th and 18th.

In any case, her conclusion is: “Of course!”

She shares her enthusiasm with the Munich quartet of organizers.

For this, the Adele coup is a milestone – and a blueprint for concert series of a similar kind in the future.

She herself puts things a little lower: “I couldn’t imagine a more wonderful way to spend my summer,” she writes on Instagram.

And says goodbye in German: “Guten Tag, Babes!”
