The registration phase for the new semester at the adult education center (VHS) has begun and the program booklet is available.

There are 426 courses to discover at the Weilheim Adult Education Center alone.

Weilheim

– Kristin Sterr has been running the Weilheimer VHS for four months.

After the first semester, in which she was completely involved in planning further courses, she is thrilled.

After just one week of the courses being online, seven of them were fully booked.

511 registrations from 400 participants had already been accepted.

“You can tell that our offer is valued,” says the managing director happily.

60 percent of the courses take place in person, 40 percent online.

The semester motto is “#regional – diverse and close”.

The fact that this is not just an empty promise is shown in the varied lectures and excursions in and around Weilheim.

“We want to show what there is to discover on the doorstep,” explains VHS employee KathrinNeuer-Warnecke.

History comes to life

For example, you can get into nature with a hike through the yew forest, a walk around the Easter lakes or a visit to the stork village in Raisting.

Local history is conveyed during a monastery tour in Wessobrunn, an adventure hike on the Via Damasia to the Auerberg or a bike tour around Weilheim.

Likewise with “With warm regards…”, a lecture in which city archivist Dr.

Joachim Heberlein brings old Weilheim postcards and their stories to life.

A culture of life is cultivated in “Schafkopfen made easy”, an introduction to what is probably the most quintessentially Bavarian card game.

Another big topic is the climate spring, which several events are dedicated to.

Nico Paech, Professor of Plural Economics, will speak about “Independent growth – a prerequisite for a good life”.

Graduate biologist Mark Meinhart shows at Lake Dietlhofer how plants and animals adapt to the climate.

You can take very practical tips home with you from “Nature in the Garden”, “Farewell to Oil and Gas” or “Building Small – Sustainable and Eligible for Funding”.

An extremely current topic is addressed in a panel discussion with experts in “Civil disobedience: legal, contemporary, necessary?”

There is also creativity involved

“Collaborations are very important to us,” emphasizes NEUER-Warnecke.

This becomes clear in the free evenings on topics for volunteers, which were developed with the district office's Citizen Engagement Coordination Office.

There is also collaboration with the library in the form of “Fairy Tale Time”.

However, the first round of this is already fully booked.

Whether in a pottery course, upcycling or painting: participants at the VHS can get creative in many ways.

When it comes to culture, the program also has a lot more to offer.

New features include a philosophical reading group and a writing workshop in the countryside.

The program is also available on the VHS

Those who enjoy exercise will also get their money's worth.

In addition to many different dance courses, there are numerous fitness and relaxation courses such as Zumba, jumping or Qigong.

New is laughter yoga, where you can laugh heartily in a group.

Skateboard instructor Tom Cat not only shows children and teenagers how to move on the rolling sports equipment, adults can also try it out with him.

In the area of work, the course “Inspire with style and confident appearance” is taking place for the first time.

Voice training, computer and smartphone courses round off the offer.

When it comes to languages, it's difficult to choose because everything is represented, from Italian and French to Chinese and Turkish to modern Greek.

Language get-togethers are suitable for applying what you have learned.

New is “Conversation for Teens”.

Young people meet to practice speaking English.

“There are still a lot of treasures hidden in the booklet,” says NEUER-Warnecke, whetting the appetite for more.

The program is available in the Hipperpassage in front of the VHS, as well as in many banks, tourist information centers and numerous shops.
